Technically you can use any rear road wheel.
You can get a 7 speed screw-on freewheel then put it on a screw-on hub so older wheels will work.
You can get a Shimano 7 speed cassette which fits onto any Shimano freehub from the last 20 years. You will likely need to add spacers for the 10/11 speed hubs.
I hope this helps

@Vince Thank you for this. I putting this on a bike that originally had a 7-speed Shimano hub so, if I understand correctly, I can't just stick in a wider 8-9-10 hub. What I'm actually trying to do is to use an Ultegra 10 speed cassette reduced to 9 speed on a 7-speed hub. Sheldon says that should work, I'm putting it to a test!
@user70163 I haven't thought about it much, was looking for some price discovery from the offers. Maybe £40 for something good, more like £20 for a beater?
@TheShipwright Thank you! I'd previously PMed with second dibs - will do again now saying you are happy to let me have it. It would be ideal - much appreciated!
I'm looking for one that runs true and smoothly, with reasonable rim wear. Must take a 23c or 25c tyre. London pickup, happy to pay for reasonable postage too. Cheers!
