There's no options because there's no need to have levers that close to the clamp. Super narrow risers are best left back in 2007 and flat bar levers should not be used on drops unless CX

Why do you say this?
This is exactly what I've been doing for 30 years.... -
• #4
Why?
-

I was also going to ask your reasoning for this.
-
• #6
Because you should have your brake levers where your hands are most of the time. In what circumstance would you ride with drop bars and only use the tops?
-
• #7
Bro do you even London?
-
• #8
Every day, yes.
-
• #9
If you only ride on the tops of drop bars, why wouldn't you just have risers
-
• #10
You know asking 'why?' is fake news, etc.

I have no idea whats going on
But just don't ride "pista" drops with levers on top. It looks shit

Because you should have your brake levers where your hands are most of the time.
When I'm in a situation where I may need my brake, which to be fair, isn't often, I'm on the tops.
Mostly I'm on the sides (roughly where hoods would be); headwind, hills or giving it some beans = drops. -
• #13
I see. I very occasionally use the tops and that's only when one-handed-eating on longer rides, or climbing. Hoods the rest of the time if not in the drops for me. Maybe its a fit thing

Maybe it's a fit thing
Maybe what is?
Here are the two variables I refer to re. levers. They both achieve the same thing but the Ridea CNC lever is by far a more practical design as it is well away from the clamp.
The cross top works, as it does for many others but it's not perfectThere's no options because there's no need to have levers that close to the clamp
If the lever was any further outboard it would be really awkward to reach when riding on the tops.
Hope this clarifies my original question.

And the Cross top...

I meant on the tops at all. Still not sure why you wouldn't use drop bar levers
-
• #17
Quickly removable for track purposes?

Fair point. I’d personally ride there with risers and drops in a backpack but that’s maybe too much faff for others

ISO standards require to have brake levers where they can be reached from the furthermost point on the handlebars.
It doesn't mean it's illegal if you decide to clamp the only brake levers close to the stem, but at this point is understandable why nobody even bothered to produce an "indipendent flat bar lever" with a 31.8mm clamp as they could never be sold or equipped on an off-the-peg bike.

Well to be fair, two companies do as I demonstrated above.

A quick google finds a multitude of drop-bar equipped, 'off-the-peg' fixed gear bikes with exactly this set up.
ISO standards require to have brake levers where they can be reached from the furthermost point on the handlebars.
If this is accurate, then the fixed gear brake levers I posted above are no less compliant than standard drop bar levers as neither can be reached from the furthermost point on the handlebars.

how is it possible to reach a drop bar lever if your hands are right at the end of the drops or on the tops? Long fingers?
-
• #22
Two companies... in a global industry worth billions. Should answer your question.
-

Furthermost. Forward. Not at the end of the bars...
There seems to be a huge lack of options for flat-bar style levers with 31.8mm clamps.
I'm looking for the conventional style where the lever pulls the cable rather than pushes the outer.
Sure there are loads of cross top style options but personally I struggle with these.
The adjuster barrel always fouls the stem clamp bolts.
On my 'best' bike I have a ridea lever but don't fancy shelling out that kind of dosh for my other builds.
AFAIK there is also the goldfinger but beyond that there is literally nothing out there.....
Any suggestions?
