Campervanning to Cardiff to Glasgow and Back

Posted on
  • Sort of what it says on the tin - I'm in the very early stages of roughing out plans for a two week (roughly) round trip to Glasgow from Cardiff in a Campervan via as many national parks/amazing scenery as possible. Everything is still up for grabs including locations, routes, vehicle etc.

The 'reason' for the trip is that we've booked tickets to the European Championships 2018, cycling for me, Gymnastics for the wife. https://www.glasgow2018.com/sports/cycling

We've never campervanned at all, have close friends who I'm mining for information but thought I'd open it up to the hive mind and see what suggestions come out of it.

I just blindly clicked on a map to get things going, aiming for around 100 miles distance covered a day, aiming for national parks, but keen to see the best that the UK has to offer. Anyone with specific recommendations of places to go to, for any reason just shout, local knowledge for spots to stop would be amazing. Will likely take bikes, but this won't be a 'cycling' holiday per se.

    Thanks!

  • You must be nuts if you're not doing the west coast of Wales.

Most underrated part of the UK.

  • I knew someone would say that, I totally agree with you. Not claiming I've done it all, but living in Cardiff I've spent a fair amount of time in West Wales, I'm hoping with this trip to spend some time in places I haven't been (much) yet. But yes, depending on how the timings work out, I might still add in a day or two doing Pembrokeshire/cardigan bay/llyn peninsula.
