120mm wheel in 130mm OLD frame + tyre size Q

  • hey all-

apologies if these are stupid questions- anyone got any good ideas?

context: i've got a dolan fxe with 120mm OLD stays & 120mm rear hub (navigator street wheels). fancied change of frame so just got a 2nd hand all city space horse frame and thought i could just just put in the 120mm wheel (& obviously keep using SS), but i've realised it's 130mm OLD. this problem has been sorted by these good gentleman: http://velosolo.co.uk/axlespacers130.html.

1- when these are installed, assuming all other factors equal/using same drive train (sugino RD2 cranks and 103mm sugino BB)- should the chain line be just as it is at present?/anything else i haven't factored in like chainstay length etc?

also, the plan with moving to the AC as well as steel>alu comfort was wider clearance for bigger tyres. dolan are recommending that max tyres to put on navigator streets is "25c & poss 28c" (they weren't sure of internal diameter & i ain't measured yet), which kinda negates all the faffing accommodating their 120mm hub w/ the spacers if i can't increase tyre size (was aiming for 38c).

2- has anyone had experience putting larger tyres on these rims? if it ain't poss i guess i may was well build up another rear wheel round a 130mm hub....

    thanks in advance....

  • Are your axles long enough to use those spacers?
