Excuse me if I'm "teaching you to suck eggs", but there are two versions of 9 speed which are incompatible.
When they introduced 10 speed, 9 speed was also tweaked.
Got a photo of your shifters?

Your shifters are 2nd generation Ergo (round tops vs 1st gen. pointed tops) and from either 1999 or 2000.
The redesigned 9 speed was introduced in 2001 and only Veloce, Mirage and Xenon were still 9 speed then.
Fortunately, it's easy to spot the two different types from the design of the logo/branding (pics of the 2000 and 2001 catalogues attached) and the position of B-screw adjuster.
The redesigned derailleurs moved the B-screw from the the pivot bolt (that attaches the derailleur to the frame), to the jockey wheel cage (by the upper jockey wheel).

Thanks for the info!
So does that mean that all pre-2001 revision 9speed mechs should be compatible with my brifters? -

Yes.
Not too bothered which one so long as it's compatible with Veloce levers.
