A photo might help but I'm wondering whether the bosses on your forks were designed for v-brakes rather than cantilevers. They look the similar but are placed differently.

I've had a further look into it and it seems the problem is fairly common: the cantilever bosses are too close together for modern cantis to fit.
Looks like I'm after some older dia compe/similar. Anyone have some floating around?

I have a univega with super tight clearances, this style shimano canti and the old dia compes fit well. The shimanos feel more powerful and you can get the cool deore ones for cheap on ebay or the new altus verson here http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/us/en/shimano-altus-ct91-cantilever-brake/rp-prod38378

Thanks all for your help, fitted a pair of Shimano BR-CX50 and they've worked a treat!
I'm looking for a new set of cantilever but have run into a problem. The brake bosses on my forks are incredibly close to the rim, both vertically and horizontally.
I ordered some Tektro CR720, but when I installed them they're too close to the rim and the brake blocks basically don't fit in, and the blocks can't be installed at the necessary angle as the adjustment washers for the brake blocks don't allow much freedom.
Any suggestions/help with brakes that are good for frames with super tight clearances would be amazing. Apologies if the description was slightly garbled, can provide diagrams if I'm being unclear.
