• Dear all
I acquired a lovely pink frame a couple of years ago. After seeing it in a shop window it was a must. Never built a bike before but have spent the last couple of years cobbling together all Italian parts for the build. Now just need to find the time.
My question is, who is "Gino" (if anybody) and does anyone have any idea whether this is just a random stickered (but lovely) frame or whether it has any pedigree? 57 x 57, weighs what an SLX should weigh, and has Duell stamped forks.
    Comments of all kinds welcome!

  • You can feel the ridges with your finger if you prod it a bit (oooh)

  • Might be SL. Doesn't look like rifling from that pic.

  • I'll stick my finger in the hole tonight and have a feel around

  • ^lol

  • Couldn't get my finger in the hole coz of downtube do I couldn't tell you what the inside feels like. I'll go with SLX, but more interested in who built it. My only clue is the Duell fork so maybe Mister Gino is Dutch? Anyone else seen a Gino frame?

  • You can look through the bottom bracket at the seat tube and should be able to see the rifling.

  • Looks repainted, could be a Duell

Nevermind, high end Duell frames are pantographed

  • Doesn't look like Duell lugs, should have the D panto on the on the top of the stays.

I'll guess at Gino is a bike shop. Either made by someone for the shop to sell, or an older frame re-sprayed by the shop. Try here as a start ?

  • Maybe @WimVDD has heard?

  • Thanks all ste, I'll check that shop out. Heldring and Poetic, got some more stamps (pantos?) to show in due course.

BTW, this rifling think is a can of worms isn't it?

  • I'm honoured, @Poetic ;)

I don't think that Gino shop is involved here, it's too recent for that. I believe Gino of the shop has half the age of this frameset. ;)

I suppose the Gino you are looking for was just the previous owner wanting his name on the bike. IMO this was a low budget DIY respray.

Have some photos of the pantos?

And dont forget only in Belgium steel frames like this one were built by the 10.000's a year. For several shops (of which most don't even exist anymore) and who paid for it could have it's own pantos, just like that. This to say not every frames' story can be traced.

  • WimVDD you sound like you're the man for Random Belgian frames, if indeed that's what is. No pant0s but stamps on fork and rear stay ends if that's what you mean. Will post when next in garage.
Regardless of its heritage it's stil looks as good as the day I first saw it

  • ...and I love her

  • Got some Pantos for your delectation. I think.

  • Cool bike! It's probably Dutch. Cycles Gino was a bike shop in Amsterdam in the early 90's. They sold bikes from for example Gazelle, Duell and Chesini. Based on the Duell dropout and color scheme this is probably a Duell from the early 90's.

  • @JBrands - cheers. I like the Cycles Gino story, I’ll take it!

  • She is complete

Rather fetching (and very topical) pink Columbus SLX frame - any ideas?
