Dura Ace SL-7400 shifters - what?

Posted on
  • I have what I thought were 7-speed Dura Ace downtube shifters (and the corresponding rear mech).

I've managed to track down an assembly diagram, which looks like this:

    BUT

the parts I have look like this (sorry for crappy photo):

Similar to what's listed on eBay as a "6-speed" set of shifters (below).

    So I ask:

    1. Do I have 7 or 6 speed shifters, and how does one tell?
    2. Might I have
a 6-speed mech and how would I know?
    3. How the hell do I assemble the
      parts I have?

    Thanks, wise people.

  • #.DA 7400 had 6,7 & 8 shifters.
7&8 were dark grey in colour, so it looks like you have 6.

    #. 7400 Mechs were 6,6&7 and 8 speed.
6 speed had 7400 on jockey cage.
    6 & 7 speed had 6s 7s sis on the cage.
8 speed had 8 sis on the cage.

#. It doesn't look like you have enough parts to assemble them.

  • Yep, pretty sure you're right. Looks like 6sp.

I've been messing around and worked out what every part does except I have two superfluous copper washers and an extra washer with two prongs sticking out (part 5 in above diagram).
