Travel insurance question - I had Yellow Jersey which was very well priced and the coverage extended to both winter sports and downhill mountain biking, which was perfect.
However, they don't cover non-UK residents, and none of the insurers operating in the Singapore market offer any coverage for mountain biking.
Would anyone know of an insurer who offers a winter/extreme sports package internationally?

Have you searched for expat travel insurance? I just had a quick Google and quite a few options popped up

Currently on a 2 year tour through the Americas. We’re insured with Worldwide Insure who have paid out on 2 claims so far but been a bit slow and shit to deal with.
Lots of people used to use Safety Wings (pay monthly insurance) but they sneakily removed bike touring from their cover leaving loads of people unknowingly uninsured.
Some friends have now got cover with Dr Walter (German based but seems to cover anyone). Others are with World Nomads and Big Cat.
When we were looking the following restrictions really narrowed down available options, double check whoever you go with covers your trip.
- bike touring
- multiple continents
- long trip (12 months or under should make it a bit easier)
Also check that they will continue to insure you if you return home but then want to continue your trip, some cancel if you return home (eg for a family or medical reason). This happened to someone we know with Big Cat but I think they successfully argued their case and got it reinstated.
Also - our cover is pretty much for medial cover only, very little to no cover for possessions or delayed/cancelled plans.
- bike touring

I’m in a 500+ person WhatsApp of people touring the Americas, there was recently some chat about insurance (after the Safety Wings debacle). If you want I can export and share the chat history and you can search it for insurance related posts.

Thanks - let me run through the names already mentioned first, if they don't pan out I'll let you know?
The core of what I want is medical/medical recovery coverage - the coverage provided by my employer won't cover me for extreme sports. Repatriation (if say I'm fairly broken) would be good also.

Looking through the exclusions for World Wide Insure they specifically exclude mountain biking, although it says you can contact them to enquire as to whether they'd cover you, which I shall do and report back.

Safety Wings cover you for sports as long as they are incidental to the trip - so heading to Fujimi to go mountain biking or skiing is excluded, but grabbing a days skiing whilst in Japan for (say) sightseeing is. Handy.

But the lady on the chat function says to ignore that. Hmm.

The chat function lady has emailed me saying that skiing and mountain biking trips would be covered, so that's definitely an option.

Has anyone heard much about or used Global Rescue? They have a package with more normal travel insurance that looks pretty good on the surface- they’ll come and get you in extremis.

Admiral
"25. Professional activities and competitions
Any losses incurred as a result of you participating in any organised sport, competition or
training, whether for leisure or professional purposes, or where you receive any financial
reward or gain from it"This looked to me like "we don't cover any pro sports" which kind of seems fine. But Admiral say it's "we don't cover any organised sports" which seems like a pretty fucking sneaky way to slide that in given the title of the exclusion is "Professional activities and competitions"
Anyone dealt with these (all insurance companies are shit) before?

That does sound really shit.
Arguably the title of that section should constrain them to not be so free with their interpretation but it might take a complaint to the Financial Ombudsman if they try it on.
The wording is so general that one way of reading that is:
Any losses incurred as a result of you participating in any organised
training for leisure purposes.Unless they give some definitions for "organised" that's vague enough to exclude entire trips if you went with the intent to do some cycling training on a day where a road is closed to only allow bikes or definitely if you plan to do a 5k walk at a parkrun. As the entire trip is arguably a result of your participation in the activity and therefore excluded...
Unless you are doing something professionally or have a track record of winning similar events with financial prizes... You should be fine.
Or just do what people used to do when they crashed a car at the Nurburgring in Germany, pay to get it towed onto the public road then make the insurance claim. Or no sir I didn't break my ankle playing a 5 a side football competition at the resort... I did it that evening on a beach walk...

"Organised" could be calling a mate to ride with you though or even as silly as "setting an alarm to leave on a specific route at a specific time"
They rang yesterday and asked some dumb questions like what bike was I on and what was I riding it on, presumably trying to get us on some kind of "MTB is extreme sport" exception.
It was just laziness that we used these guys - they were our car insurer. Instead of multi-trip with these scumbags I'll probably go back to taking out specific trip insurance using Snowcard or Dogtag or one of those guys that definitely cover "OMG he woke up in the morning and did more than sit on a beach all day".
What do people use for Travel Insurance?
I am not talking about just transportation insurance for cancellations/delays or health insurance, I mean something specific for travelling that covers multiple things, such as World Nomads
I am planning a year long RTW trip, so I am looking into this kind of things. There seems to be a lot of companies offering a lot of different services. From reviews and forums it seems the one above is among the most favourite ones.
Has anyone tried it?
Additionally, my gf and I are Italian, currently living/working/paying taxes in UK, although haven't been here long enough to become permanent residents. We would be insured as UK residents, however we were told that because of Brexit, the company could cancel our insurance during our travel pending any Brexit agreements.. Not really sure how to deal with this, ideas?
