I'm going to Roubaix tomorrow, maybe via Bruges, and getting a ferry back on Sunday. Does that work for you? I'll be getting back to London Sunday evening.

That will be awesome, but for now it is last option. I want my mate to be there when Boonen rolls into the velodrome on sunday.
I currently have two options.
Taking the ferry alone tonight. Cycling to Bruges to pick up his passport, stay the night and then cycle back to Dunkirk tomorrow and take the ferry to Dover, where I will meet my mate and we go back over together.
Depending if I can get a courier or help from @WimVDD (thx @Poetic) or another forum member, I go to Dunkirk tonight, meet up with passport courier and find a cheap hotel and then take the ferry back tomorrow morning pick up my friend and then cycle to Bruges together.

Eh, don't want to sound like I'm stating the obvious but you have heard of 24hour express courier services? If you dropped off at a FedEx bureau this afternoon it would be with you tomorrow. Risks involved etc but still-how much is it going to cost to fuck around with round trip ferries?

Been on the phone with FedEx. They wont do it until monday. We have tried but not been able to find couriers who work weekends. But thank you. We need all ideas on the table right now.
We surely could have missed some possible solutions.
Ferries are 25 gbp each way. So it will cost him 50gbp and some pints to use me as the courier. -

haha-£50 and some pints would be cheap at twice the price!

Oh damned, I'd come to Dunkirk right away but I have to work tonight. And tomorrow I have already other obligations.
Dunkirk is a 1 hr ride from my place so can't do it in between.
Sorry

Update. Just woke up in Bruges after 4hours of sleep. Taking a shower now and then back on the bike to be in Dunkirk for the 2pm ferry.
It will be fine, but riding through last night wasn't fun with the Belgian fog by the canals and all. -

That's one devoted friend! Preps to you!

Friends without passports is a bit of a theme on your Belgian trips, right? I'd forgotten mine at home, when we went to Superprestige Spa-Francorchamps.

Who was it this time?

I am on the ferry back to Dover now. Just had a steak sandwich and chips plus refuelled on complementary champagne, pastry, coffee and Pepsi. My mate, who I shall leave unnamed, bought me premium lounge upgrade so currently sitting in comfy chair and recharging all electronics.
The ride today was wind free and much more comfortable without the fog.
Had minor issues with my bottom bracket but Wim the bike mechanic fixed it free of charge and I only lost an hour.
I ran out of power and found out my battery pack won't charge my phone because of USB3 I think. I found the harbour using my wicked French skills and Garmin Touring with euro maps (thx @chak ).All of this doesn't matter as my mate is waiting in Dover and I have his passport. We will be there to say goodbye to Boonen. No boarders or mechanical failures will prevent that :)

Haha, awesome! You getting straight back on the ferry at Dover?

Notes to self:
- Buy dynamo set up. It is worth the money.
- don't bring summer sleeping bag when not summer.
- post photos when Internet doesn't suck.

Yup. I am stepping out the ferry, sucker punching my buddy and get right back on. I don't mind sitting still right now. Nice to have 4hours recovery before we cycle the 92km back to Bruges.

Ha ha. This little story of cycling and friendship has cheered me right up. Hope you have a great weekend.
Hi,
My friend and I was supposed to ride to Bruges today and then onto Paris during next week. Unfortunately he left his passport in a bag that some of our friends already brought to Bruges for us. They are in a van and we are cycling. We were going to meet up in Bruges and then go to Roubaix on sunday.
All of this is now impossible as he can not go on the ferry without passport.
If anybody is in Bruges or close to and is going to London during this weekend we would pay you to pick up his passport and bring it to London.
Please don't hesitate to contact me
