Whats the value of the frame ?
Any sentiment attached to it ?
Whats the replacement value of a new frame ?
Is a fix cheaper than replacement ?Alu needs heat treating after welding for full strength.
From mountain bikers i know that have had smaller cracks welded up it can be very hit and miss.
The welder had reccomended that the frame is allowed to age harden, you leave it for a few weeks at least.
The ones that didn't had the frame/swingarm fail again.A crash bad enough to crack the frame like yours i would say time to retire the frame.

Fuji cross frame so not an expensive or one I'm fond off. I think I knew it was a goner. Thanks for the input
I'm thinking about replacing it with either a new ribble winter or a 2nd hand kinesis racelight t frame.
I'm glad I found the crack before my teeth found something pavement like.
Thanks for your advice

With a crack like that in the down tube, I'd be worried about the carbon forks too. Did you hit something head on ?

I got hit side on. You should have seen the state of the bag of spinach in my backpack. I knew I was in trouble when I heard a pop. (Spinach everywhere).
I don't remember seeing the crack at first, I think it has appeared and grown recently. I'll check the fork.
Thanks!

Heat treating depends on the grade of aluminium. Not all aluminium needs to get baked.
That could be a cheap fix potentially.
i had a crash a few weeks ago - everything seemed fine until i had a closer inspection yesterday. the frame has a big old crack in it through almost half of the frame.
I've had a quote of £130 from a mobile welder who said he could fix it, but i'm not sure whether to go with that and risk it failing in the future of cutting my losses and replacing the frame for a similar sort of amount.
does anyone have any experience of repairing a frame and the cost?
