Saracen Avro full carbon disc road bike (Large)

  • Hello guys,

    I have an excellent all round road bike namely the Saracen Avro carbon bike, it got a decent geometry (73 head and seat angle) but a taller than average headtube, threaded bottom bracket (hooray!), thru axle front and rear, and mudguard mount.

    It had been a great bike in the Pyrenees climb and gravel road, it was originally specced for 700c 28mm tyres, but the Challenge Strada Bianche 30mm fit perfectly well.

    It now hold 650b 38mm (Compass Loup Loup Extralight) with Halo wheelset, the funny thing is that it's actually slightly lighter than the original wheelset it replaced!

    I can't find the original geometry but the Reach is around 389mm and the stack a whopping 589mm, basically the headtube of a 58cm road bike but the reach closer to a 54cm road bike.

    It sport upgrade such as the TRP HY/RD running Shimano resin pads, Yokozuna Reaction housing, full Shimano 105 drivetrain (11/32 with 52/36), the chain is not worn out, and I'm including the 11/28 cassette on top.
    It also got a Thomson seatpost, and a Ritchey Neoclassic drop handlebar.

    I'm sad to see it go but I'm quite partial to my new steel road bike.

    A steal at £600 including the original 1600g thru axle wheelset.

  • Did it mention it even got mudguard mount too?

  • @edscoble, how tall are you? I know nothing about stack & reach; a 57 would be too large for me but a 54 be more reasonable. I'm 5ft 10.

  • I'm 6", if you see the geometry sheet, the seat tube is 57cm, which may be too large for you.

  • The price is ridiculous!

  • The main reason is that although it's not full hydraulic (felt like it), it allow whomever buying it to switch to a full Shimano hydraulic without spending too much money.

    It's easy to route the cable and the threaded BB make all the difference.

    At the moment, we are seeing some pretty awesome bicycles coming out in the last year, like the Open U.P. that have clearance for 47mm tyres.

    In due time, a new carbon bicycle with clearance for 650b 47mm tyres is on the card, right now I'm enjoying my trusty Elephants for this purpose.
