  • Been a while since i've done any kind of build log so thought it would be fun to share the current project.

While i have a carbon "all-road" bike that i use for most riding i've been itching for a steel one with more bottle mounts, 650b capability etc that i would be more happy with hanging bags on and taking on longer/rougher rides. But with a tight budget a new custom frame wasn't possible. Haven't found any otp frames i'm happy with in my price range either.

Came across this frame recently on Cnc-bike that looked interesting. Its headtube is slightly shorter that im used too, and i fall sort of in-between sizes but otherwise it ticked most of my boxes. For €179.

Unknown steel but it feels alright. Not a tank nor a lightweight.
    44mm headtube.
    650b clearances.
    3 bottle bosses.

The only real bug is the PF30 bb. But i'm planning on using an BSA adapter. No experience with them but from what i've gathered they work fairly well.

Looking at alternative ways on rust-proofing/painting it. Currently a hammered brush-on paint is the most tempting one but i'm open to suggestions.

Regarding the components i'm not sure yet. I've got some Compass Switchback Hills and lots of spares. Planning on doing the Torino-Nice rally with fuckloads of climbing i'll need low gears for so haven't decided on wether it's getting 1X or not.

    More later.

    /F

  • I have a praxis adapter, so far has survived two winters. Would recommend

  • I'll check those out!

  • Inner diameter of BB shell is 46mm right? Since it is not painted yet You could get a 39mm BSA shell brazed in place with some kind of 46-39mm step down ring... Obviously that would add weight

  • The Endpoint Coffeegrinder is a pretty close match in terms of what i'm aiming for (except components ofc). Carbon crabon fork? Or a custom steel low trail orlowski/rychtarski?

  • Carbon crabon fork? Or a custom steel low trail orlowski/rychtarski?

Chinese carbon to start, if you like the bike get custom after.

What size tyres did it fit please? Really interested in these frames!

Also, looking at doing T-N rally, but slowly, over 10-14 days maybe as to not kill myself and actually enjoy it!

Also, wtf is up that chain on that Endpoint? looks like there are some mega stiff links on the go

  • I am following this thread

  • ^likewise

  • 2.1" fitted here and pic above just to check clearances.

Yes, my plan is also taking around 10 days or more and ride it my own pace. So stoked though. Looks amazing.

Didn't even notice the chain. Looks odd indeed.

  • Ah that's good to know, thanks. Is there an eyelet on the brake bridge? Doesn't look like it, of not maybe worth adding one in now before you paint it.

  • Also slightly tempted to braze on a downtube shifter boss for the lolz.

  • Yup underneath.

  • At the very least I'd say some cable tensioners on the HT, maybe those nice brass ones?

  • I am following this thread

    Same.

  • Good find, that frame. Have to do some bike sales and budget planning.

  • Have been looking at that frame last week, but dismissed it due to PF30 and did not want to faff around with adaptors.

    Might need to reconsider.
Would look good with Paul discs and Sora.

  • So, paint scheme on this going to be....?

  • Also needs red lettering in thin outline font

  • Ah, didn't see that in the text. I concur.

I foresee a new trend with that paint. Soon on Radavist etc

  • Pelago Saimaa is very similar paint, although it looks different in photos.
My Rawland also, but without the same texture.

It's a great idea for bike paint.

  • Yeah the Pelago X Carhartt has a hammered paint. There's more than that green color available though.

Will be trying it on something else than the frame first to see how well it flows etc as it's a brush on paint (available as spray too).

  • Trendsetter. I'll wait in anticipation on the outcome.

  • What you going to do for fork?
