I'd steer clear of that, the whole top tube looks kinked. I'd also say it's too big for you, the sizing on these old cannondales is abit wierd I think. You're probably best asking in the Cannondale thread.

I'd also say that's probably a size too big for you. Depends whether the seller is measuring or going on listed size. The official sizes are slightly larger due to cannondale measuring to the top of the top tube for the seat tube measurement. Not to the centre of the top tube like most people measure

I agree with Dry, stay clear! I bought a caad5 usa of the Bay for a similar price and the condition is 10x better and with a full 105 groupset so keep looking. Mine is a 58cm which fits me fine at 190cm but I could easily ride a 56cm so it's definitely too big

Yeah, I'm thinking I'll fall somewhere in the 52-54 range for the CAAD5. I'll keep my eyes peeled and play the long game.

I'm 5 8" - I ride a 54. 52 also works for me (reach is about 1cm shorter, lots of seat post for extra pro-ness).
56 is probably too big.
I echo the sentiment here in that it's possible that the CAAD you linked to is done for.
There's a CAAD9 and a CAAD7 frame on here for sells at the moment at pretty darn good prices.

Thanks, that's good to know I'm in the right area in terms of sizing.
Have looked at the CAAD7 as well, but I think I'd like to go for one with the BSA bottom bracket for convenience.
What is the going rate for the CAAD5 framesets? Don't want to get mugged when buying.

CAAD5s are pre 2000 I think, so even if they are in good nick they are geriatric :)
Wouldn't pay more than £100 for a well turned out frame & fork.

As it happens, I would and will. Pulling the trigger on a CAAD9 from the forum :) Now the hunt is on for some campagnolo parts. It's going to be a slow labour of love

To be clear, I was answering your question about what the going rate would be a for a CAAD5 frame and fork.
The more modern frames will command higher prices, obviously.

Definitely go for 54. I'm 6.1 and I'm riding 56 caad5.

I know, but found a good deal for the CAAD9 for £150 which was too good to pass up I think.

Yup, that seems to be the general consensus. Thanks :)

Yes - they are great frames. Got any change spare to have it re-sprayed a rad colour?
-
• #15
I reckon it's already a pretty rad colour

But, out of curiosity, any recommendations on where to get a re-spray done if I go down that route, and getting the decals following the paint job?

Cole Coatings maybe?

I was perfectly fine keeping the bike as is, but now you're giving me ideas...

Second hand 'dale stuff is ripe for resprays because the warranty dies with re-spray...but also dies with second ownership.
Hi all,
I'm keen as a project to buy a CAAD5 and build it up with Campagnolo parts. But, before I go ahead, I'd just like some help first on determining what size frameset to get, as I'm 5"9/177cm tall.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/172536192684?_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
I've seen the above on eBay, which is a 56cm, and the selling assures me it's the right size for me, but I'm not sure as my current bike is a 52cm Croix de Fer, though I'm probably better suited to a 54cm in this model.
Also, on the above bike, is the price/condition about standard?
Thanks
