Shame about the diamondback, that is sick!
Are you swapping out most of the parts to a new frame?
-
• #4
That Diamondback is awesome!
If you plan to sell the forks, I might be interested. ;) -
• #5
A suivre de près !

@BenReve : vous ici ? :-)
@leMesjeu not selling anything yet, but I'll let you know if/when that's the case.@hp93 Actually, I won't be swapping a lot of parts... The DiamondBack has aged (badly) a lot since that photo, so there isn't a lot to salvage.
But I view this project as a semi-budget build, with components from the parts bin, and second-hands parts. -

That Diamondback is so on point... Good luck with the new build and keep us posted!

I Love your DiamondBack!!!

He did this setup for the Japanese Odyssey.

Oky, so I'm still stumbling on problems acquiring the frameset - but meanwhile, the hoarding has begun, with handlebars.
I got my hands on Pro vibe 7s (compact, alloy version). I promptly acetoned off the ugly graphics.

Apologies if I'm being a muppet but how did you change gear on this?
-
• #13
With a bar-end shifter. It's mounted on the left side of the handlebar and is hidden by the bag, on that picture.
I intend to use the same system on the new bike.

Chainring(s) !
I took advantage of a sale and got two Superstar "Raptor" narrow/wide rings (one 36t for touring, one 40t for general riding). They appear a bit, er, flimsy. Like, really thin. Hopefully they'll hold up, as I don't really want to buy an expensive Wolftooth.

Yo! Instead of Wolfthooth, you can have a look to the BlackSpire Snaggletooth. Cheaper that Wolfthooth and is good quality. I have that on my gravel!

I've got a Gear King from AliExpressor eBay (I forget which). Much cheapness and its surprisingly thick.

@Alex-K2000 @tallsam for 110BCD 4-bolts pattern? (shimano road).
Cause the reason I got theses rings is that I intend to use an Ultegra chainset.

Ah no. Sorry. I misunderstood. This was for 4 bolt mtb

Looking for the same thing. Superstars offering made me a bit jittery to be honest.
-
• #20
I'm using superstar narrow wide ring - works perfectly.

More pieces to the puzzle.
Bar-end shifter and TRP Hylex, and a 11-36 cassette for rando use.

y u no garbaruk?!

I didn't know those existed (a bit out of budget too), but I keep that in mind in case of a replacement!

Fork ID on the Diamondback? Looking for something similar.
Edit: Found it, CdF forks.....

Rims, hubs and spokes have arrived !
It will be my first build with straightpull spokes... Recon it'll be a PITA, as spokes seem to wind up a lot.

After countless hours of silently lurking, it's time for me to open my own topic.
Project scope: "do-it-all" bike, heavily orientated toward day-to-day usability (think FBNPNA), lightish offroad and long-distance capable.
The aim to replace my trusty Diamondback Response, which was adequate for the intended usage, but suffered from some increasingly annoying quirks.
That's all for the moment. More updates soon.
