  • I've been selling a large part of my bike collection and when people ask me why, I usually say it's because I'm fed up with working on bikes and I want to go out riding them again.

So it may sound weird when I tell I picked up this frameset today for a new project. But it does make sense as I bought this one not just to look at but to ride it (be it in very dry and sunny weather only).

About the frame: It's made by an Italian chap named Gianni Sancineto and for one reason or another he called it's bikes "Sancineto".

This one is made from very nice Columbus SLX tubing, using very nice lugs but I think the reason why I like the bikes is the subtle nineties wrongness. Not as wrong as Ernesto Colnago used to do in the nineties, no, in an acceptable, almost timeless way.

Next step is to decide what I will put on it. It's pretty clear I want it to be a bike with a minimum of modern comfort so no era correct things. On the other hand: "era correct" means end nineties and those can be called modern. And I happen to have a spare Campagnolo Record Titanium 9 speed groupset.

I also have a more recent 10 speed Chorus/Record groupset having black carbon brifters and I suppose black is still beautiful on this pearl white frameset.

More black: I have a brand new Shimano Ultegra (6800) - can't have them more modern than that, no. But than I should have to remove the decal on the top tube saying "Campagnolo" and I suppose it's been there with a reason. Call it predestination.

So probably I will finish this one with my Campa Chorus/Record groupset.

  • +1 for Campa 10 & silver finishing kit. And treat yourself to some compact bars :)

  • Well it says campagnolo on the tt so shimano is not an option haha. Lovely frame!

  • You don't like black finish, @Sig_Arlecchino ?

  • don't mind the white Flite...

  • I admit that I'm generally biased towards silver finishing kit since I have it on all of my bikes but I don't mind black finishing kits either, depending on the bike. As for your frame, I think that silver finishing kit would tie in very well with the chromed forks and rear triangle. Imho, on a classic frame it's usually best not to murder it out with all black parts but to keep a few silver parts :)

  • +1 for silver bits

  • Liking the look of this, progressing fast. Silver looks like it's working to me.

  • Those forks are beyond cool...

  • And you're the one to know best, @LeChef ;)

I'm progressing fast, indeed. And you all were right about the silver parts.

  • Bit of a dark pic, maybe this one is better...

  • Build thread almost complete in 3 hours, I could learn a lot from you.

  • 3 hours because I'm working and do this when taking a break. ;-)

  • WTF! Just got notice of this CP thread only to find out it's (almost) completed already!!

  • :)

I know it's faster than the average build here on the forum but the thing is: I almost had every part needed and I've been building my own bikes for more than 20 years.

But thanks for the compliment, I will tell my teacher from mech's classes.

  • Cool, You bought it.
    +1 for the silver components.

  • Yip. Told myself to sell my Cinelli SC. Or another one. ☺

  • Can we get some seat stay pictures please :)

  • It would look lovely with some box section black rims, 32h 3x, silver spokes and silver hubs instead of those circus wheels.
Also black Campy carbon seat post but keep the ITM stem.

Very nice frame none the less.

  • I lnow about the wheels... didn't have other around and wanted to see how the bike looks with wheels.

I have different sets of box section rims (Mavic Sup Ceramic, Wolber Aspin, Campa Sigma Pave) but need some 10 speed hubs.

  • Treat yourself to something wide so you can run 25c tyres or even 27c with no issues.

My old Sancineto, although not nearly as beautiful as yours, was much more enjoyable with Velocity A23 rims and 25c tyres.

  • It already took me a serious mindshift to go from 23 to 25, so no, more than that would be too much for me. ;) But thanks for the advice.

Nice one you have there too.

    @SideshowBob here's one for you:
