FWIW I'm currently using mtb bb7s with tektro rl520s. I've had zero problems.
The (much more expensive) Cane Creek offerings that I also considered look good, if suspiciously similar, and seem to have nicer hoods.
I like my setup. But it is on a 26" drop-bar mtb / children carrying/ do everything biek. So I'm not sure how that sits vs your project.

I definitely agree the rl520's would be a safe bet, too bad the hood shape looks too familiar to my 600's that are too narrow and curved. I think the Cane Creeks are rebranded Tektro's I'll have a look into those as well.
I'll probably end up sticking with MTB bb7's, and try them out with the 600 levers I have. If I can get that to work I'll hop over to the RL340's, if not I'll switch to RL520's or to 340's with the bb7 road internals which would come out cheaper than buying the road bb7's new.
I've read some older posts on forums where people say the short pull road lever works great with long pull MTN BB7s given the clearances are tight enough, while others didnt have as much luck. Im trying to stick with MTN bb7s because they can be had for a decent price second hand, while I much prefer the shape of the hood and levers of the Tektro RL340 road over the RL320 v brake compatible drop levers.
Any personal experiences and do you think it worth giving it a shot?
