I rode to work and back each day when I lived in Prestwich (around 10 miles each way) and I did it fixed (48x17) and brakeless. It's easily done, there are a few hills but nothing too difficult.

Badass! Which route did you take? Feel like smashing up Cheetham hill isn't the smartest idea without brakes ;)

I used to do this: https://www.strava.com/activities/167020478
just found it more enjoyable taking that route, there is certainly shorter routes

No issues around here fixed or ss, some people ride some huge ratios, I generally stick to around 72" (49x18)
Hey all,
Currently living in Cologne where it is massively flat, so it's really no problem to ride single speed, but wondering if it's possible to continue this when I move back home.
Is it possible to commute to more areas in the north easily? I'm from Prestwich side, so there's some long graduals out the city. What sort of ratios would you recommend? Hoping to build up a steamroller to belt around on.
Cheers!
