Got a build of one of these too but mines not Alu, same shape though. Following with interest

Great frames but don't go chasing lightness with it. I have a medium 53cm one built up with all reasonable stuff - full carbon fork, SRAM rival, force 22 carbon cranks, carbon smp saddle etc and it's well over 8kg. Stiff though and good to sprint on.
Go wide wheels if you can but you wont fit anything other than a true 25mm tyre through the rear wishbone stays. I ran a Vittoria corsa 700x25 (more like 27mm wide) for a day and it burned off the paint!Keep the streampost quill clean and greased otherwise it will stick.
I vote sram rival 10spd - excellent groupset.

Mines sram red and the full carbon frame, other than that no lightweight parts and it's 7.5kg

Cheers, yeah I've been introduced to carbon grease so I will apply liberally in due course, what wheelset do you have?

If you want to do a light-weight build and keep it cheap, I'd go second hand. SRAM 10 speed groupsets were light, Rival is a good shout above. Add a Force or Red carbon chainset for some more weight savings.
Recently did a similar cheapo build, I ended up with a Campag groupset as I found some shifters for twenty five quid. The rest of it I just bought off ebay really. Seven hundred and something pounds in total. Hopefully some inspiration for you. -

i picked up 10speed rival group on here for very cheap for my budget build.

I've got a 175mm 53/39 Sram Red crankset for sale if you're interested.

10 speed SRAM is garbage compared to 11 speed. Rival 22 is a very well priced group.

Wheels are 3T accelero. Some wide u -shaped aero rims. But in alu so they do weigh 1800 grams without skewers or cassette. Roll very well though!
With a bit of cash and effort my bike would easily be 7.5ish but it's just not worth it. Rides well as is. -

Also I've found my sram rival 10 speed shifters to be excellent and long lasting. No issues in 5 years and many thousands of miles. Same with the rear derailleur. Front is a faff, you need in-line adjusters to get cable tension spot on otherwise front shifts suck. I'll go out and get a pic of the bike for reference.

Nonsense.. SRAM 10sp is decent kit which I've done years and years of heavy miles on, on lots of bikes. Just swap the front mech for a shimano 10spd one and you're good to go.

I've got an Aluminium Streetracer frame, can't fit anything bigger than 23mm at the back without it rubbing on the seat tube. Also get toe overlap on the front. BMC sure liked almost track geo short wheelbases a few years back

I'll try and upload a picture of mine. Finally got the bars retaped and it's nearly done. Not quite ratty though :)

How flexy is the front wheel?
-

It's obviously not super stiff but it's not noticeably noodley either. It's my only running front wheel though. I wouldn't be using it otherwise.

Essentially want to keep this a cheap ratty lightweight and most importantly not a vanilla build.
Frame
Super compact 2011 BMC SL01 in medium, an interesting mix of carbon and ALU and I believe this was their experimental phase so it will be interesting for me nonetheless.
Groupset
Something low profile like Force or Rival 22 or even 105.
Carbon leavers would be lovely and I would be happy even a mix of Shimano and SRAM parts if decently priced. Not too fussed about what the groupset is as long as it is good value (not 1st hand) and not any lower than 105.
Wheelset
As per not too fussed other than lighter than rs11s, so 1500g or lighter. I have my eye on these wiggle Cosine does anyone have experience with or for or against?
finishing kit
Left over bits from home. I have a few stems to try so will find the right length then go carbon. Arione saddle. wiggle lifeline tape (China carbon thread said good things about it).
First road build so open to suggestions/concerns/etc
Thanks
Robert
