Interesting to note the dodgy narrow tunnel cycle track is being widened properly.

  • I don't think there's much new here since the consultation results were published.

It's not a perfect scheme, but it does look better than what's there now.

Making the ped crossing from the station to Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens a single step instead of two separate crossings with awful timing is especially welcome.

Right now lots of people run across a three lane road on a blind corner... can't be long before that causes an accident.

  • I don't think there's much new here since the consultation results were published.

Gilligan has commented on the blurring of cycling space with walking space. There is a worrying trend to mix cycling and walking at signalled crossings, such as hyde park corner and archway remodelling.
Bikes and peds are really incompatible at pinch points and as such should be separated.

  • Not sure if this is new - but the site now gives a date of 2019 for the gyratory to be replaced.

  • Updated today with some new renderings: https://consultations.tfl.gov.uk/roads/vauxhall-cross/

Looks much better than the current gyratory.

Some good stuff in the tweaks to the design, too:

"We now intend to remove the cycle give way on Wandsworth Road at the southern
entrance to the Phoenix House turn around to enhance cyclist progression. Cyclists will have priority over turning motorists.
    "

"We now intend to remove the cycle give way on South Lambeth Road at the junction of Vauxhall Grove and the junction of Lawn Lane to enhance cyclist progression. Cyclists will have priority over turning motorists."

  • This is quite good, too:

"We will aim to coordinate the traffic signals, so that traffic coming over the bridge does not see a ‘sea of green lights’ and accelerate."

While the exact oposite is being done for bikes:

"we plan to widen the existing pedestrian tunnel on Kennington Lane and convert the staggered cycle crossing on Albert Embankment to a ‘straight across’ crossing to help link the current CS5 with the wider Vauxhall Cross proposals"

That's going to cheer up the fellow who asked for a 35mph speed limit increase on Albert Embankment to "avoid congestion" :-D
