  • Probably not the most interesting project, but pretty stoked to have picked this up. Was looking to get a suspension fork for my Stumpjumper, but old Foxes and such are fetching crazy money, so I browsed some PB and bought a whole bike instead.

Picked it up on the weekend with some help from Dicki and immediately got it covered in shit. Pretty happy.

Now I reckon I got a pretty good deal. But it needs some fettling and tinkering and general fiddling, for sure. More to come

  • bought a whole bike instead

    Preach
Park looks like Bushy or Richmond, but neither are that muddy?

  • Car park at Epping. The tea hut was closed :(

  • Trim hoses, get dropper, go tubeless. Bam! Transam's are up there with the Soul/Bluepig/latitude as some of finest steel hardtails ever made.

  • Good frames, over priced from new, from memory several better tubed frames in 853 for cheaper out there.
Wouldn't say no to one apart from at RRP.

Bike looks DH race ready :)

  • Trim hoses, get dropper, go tubeless. Bam!

    Then fit ridiculously wide bars

  • People under 6" do exist you know, and they do struggle with broom handle bars....

  • Be careful googling "Transition Trans Am" loads of transgender stuff popped up :)

  • People under 6" do exist you know

    ?

  • Needs more flames

  • Maybe I can transplant them from the tourer

@853Superfly Google clearly thinks it knows something about your pron tastes.

@Chak @853Superfly yeah a BFe or Soul would be top of the list but such is the budget, and I'm definitely not unhappy.

    @BareNecessities they're already 750mm, I'd need an arm swap too. Also #rep

  • So spec as it stands:

Rockshox Lyrik RC2L, with Solo Air swapped in(?)
    Saint M810 cranks, Hope narrow-wide.
    Zee mech, SLX shifter
    SLX M665 brakes
    Hope Pro 2 (135x10)/Mavic EX721 rear
    Superstar (20mm)/Mavic XM321 front
    Thomson Elite 50mm, Funn Full-On bars (25.4)
Generic seat post and Specialized ass-hatchet.

First thing's first, Lyrik is going to local suspension guru (Boost) for a full teardown, clean and service, so a) I know what's actually in there and if it's all working and b) so I can do future servicing myself knowing that it's started off right.

Main issues besides are obviously that it's a fucking tank.

  • Soul/Bluepig/latitude as some of finest steel hardtails ever made.

    uwot?

  • Saint M810 cranks

Lol.. that version's even heavier than mine.

  • Wheels - are good options for my needs pretty much just Hope and DT350? Lots of Hope/ZTR Flow combos second hand. Otherwise WTB i23 rims of some variety take my fancy.

Needs tyres that aren't ridiculous downhill things. Probably more XR Muds for the time being. And tubeless obvs

The SLX shifter is a bit meh compared to the X0 I'm used to. Thinking a Saint M820 upgrade. Zee mech and Saint cranks seem pretty great tho. Brakes are ugly but functional, but ideally Guides way later down the line.

Definitely needs a dropper. I think external routing is my only option?

While the teeniest-tiniest-Thomson is adorable, the cockpit is a prime location for some weight-saving and I think I'd like to go to a 60mm, maybe 70, and upsize to oversized, maybe with some carbon for good measure. Possibly from China. I'm very trusting, and cheap.

Think that just about covers it...

  • Quite :| But they're not that heavy in the grand scheme of things, and something as good and lighter sounds like money I cba to spend any time soon.

  • Only by about 40 grams :-)

Be confident that your 10ft huck to flat probably won't break the axle..

  • It's a Tank that could slay that Fort William DH track :)

32-34lb area of Tankness or sub 30

  • That also seems like the worst bike ever to put some cheap crabon bars on.

  • going to totally trigger's broom it huh?

  • Don't think Panzer, think more Drop Ship :)

  • I may have an upgrade habit.

Mostly the wheely-bits, saddle and shifter are urgent. Everything else is surprisingly decent!

  • If I wanted to do that I think I'd keep the wheels...

  • I loved my trams am....
