Stuck cone/locknut on rear axle

Posted on
  • Wondering if anyone has any advice on getting a seized cone and locknut off the rear axle? I have tried with two cone spanners, as well as soaking overnight in penetrating oil, but they won't budge. Would prefer if I didn't have to destroy them in the process. Cheers.

  • Maybe a bit heat on the cone from one of those little micro lighters.

  • Cheers, will give it a go on the weekend.

  • You could lock two full-sized nuts together on the other end of the axle and then get a full-sized spanner on those to turn against a full-sized spanner/vice on the locknut.

  • Are you able to unlock the other side and pull it out. Only move the locknut anti clockwise. Cone should be held firm.
