I would like to use a song I found for a film i've created and then publish it on youtube/vimeo. Does anyone have any experience on doing this? how do I get the song and use it all legally? ?

You will need to check the license status of that song.

I use http://freemusicarchive.org/ for film music which allows use according to various public use licenses

It depends on what you want to use the film for? And where it will be seen? If you're looking to show the film and get money for it, you'll need to licence the track, and pay for its usage. So find label/publisher/composer of track and ask their permission to use it and how much it would cost to licence it.
If it's for a showreel, personal project which not many people will see just use it. And give credit for its use.
