  • Hi, I'm under a new name previously (soserious) now killerstraight, same as my instagram.

I was using chrome clipless shoes as you will see in the photo. Had them roughly over a year and used them fixed brakeless for most of that time and eventually killed them. Now running free wheel id still like to be able to use the pedals.

This was more of a bit of fun and something to do as i wasn't very sure it would work.

As the chrome shoes had pretty much fell apart the stiff plastic insole came out without much of a struggle.

  • Next up a pair of old adidas trainers I used for mountain bike riding hence the mud and grime.

  • I then butchered a whole in the bottom of the shoe after doing all the working out. A quick dry fit to see how it will look and fit.

  • I decided that my cleaning skills are not that good so I stuck them in the washer with some black die.......... could be worse but not to bad could do with another go.

  • Got to the point where I was ready to go ahead and glue the insole in with the cleat fitting. Used sneaker ER glue as i used that on trainers that I have resoled in the past and have held up really good.
One shoe is currently glued up and clamped up in the shed as this glue really does stink.
sorry not sorry for screen shot.

  • It's the smell you should be apologising for.

I've got a pair for the chrome shoes, they look good, but they really could do with a stiffer plate.

  • It's the smell of my dead chrome shoes. The insides ended just a strange soggy mess and smelt horrid.
I only used them for town rides or short commuting to didn't find them to bad and found them stuff enough. For serious or longer rides I'd deffo go with a stiffer sole

  • I can't believe the difference post dye wash- new shoes!

  • They probably do but these soles are the same thickness as my chrome. Should be fine riding free wheel.

  • Indeed! Mixed feeling on the outcome though aha

  • End result.
Don't look to bad and work pretty well so
Far. See how they hold up after afew weeks commuting

  • Cheers 😊 Seem to work well
