First time build thread. The aim is build myself a robust'ish disc based road bike that will take 35mm tyres. Aiming to do it as cheap as poss.
I bought a Kona Honky Inc on here a few weeks back. These are the same same geo as a Paddywagon but made to takes gears and discs. I used to ride a paddywagon and liked it but decided SS for everyday purposes wasn't for me. The Honky had been part stripped by a thief and was partly rebuilt so all it really needs is a bit of finishing off. I was planning on running my alfine wheel in this build but rang into a few snags and then deicided to use what's on it, i.e. a 2 * 10 setup.
I've read that this 10 speed isn't as robust as 8/9 for commuting but it's what I have so I'll wear it out.
I then picked up a nice sturdy touring wheel set with a SP dynamo and Novatech rear on Exal 19 rims again from a sale thread here. So have ordered lights after asking for advice over on the Dynamo lighting thread.
Have an BM IQ2 Luxos front and BM Toplight with brake light coming from RoseBikes. There goes the budget!
Ordered Jagwire compressionless housings for the BB7s.
To get it on the road
Install cables for gears/brakes
Transfer 10 speed cassette onto new touring wheel
fit lights and Wire up dynamo
I'll be using a Bagman Expidition on this so will need to bodge something for the rear light.
Hopefully it will end up a solid commuter for the winter and beyond.
Any advice or comments please feel free to chip in.
Don't worry about formatting, just type in the text and we'll take care of making sense of it. We will auto-convert links, and if you put asterisks around words we will make them bold.
Tips:
Create headers by underlining text with ==== or ----
To *italicise* text put one asterisk each side of the word
To **bold** text put two asterisks each side of the word
Embed images by entering: ![](https://www.google.co.uk/images/srpr/logo4w.png) That's the hard one: exclamation, square brackets and then the URL to the image in brackets.
* Create lists by starting lines with asterisks
1. Create numbered lists by starting lines with a number and a dot
> Quote text by starting lines with >
Mention another user by @username
For syntax highlighting, surround the code block with three backticks:
```
Your code goes here
Just like Github, a blank line must precede a code block.
If you upload more than 5 files we will display all attachments as thumbnails.
