Frame looks lovely. No toptube dent? Is this going to be full NJS, or fixie skidding machine like @wqvm said?

  • No toptube dents, Looks a little dirty at parts but Toshi assures me it will clean up fine, no rust.

I will be building it up very similar to my Nagasawa.

I will let you guys decide if its a fixie skidding machine when its finished.

  • ^ are they security nuts? What make are they then?

  • Cheers. They look WAY better quality than Pinhead ones.

  • The 4 grips on drops thing is quite clever. How didn't I think of that.

  • I went for Champ Yoshida Keirin Long Grips, the ones on top are 1mm thick (so i could probably also attach a break lever if needed, or failing that cut around it).
The lower ones on the drops are the Standard 2mm thick ones.
These grips are an absolute nightmare to get on by themselves.
Never use a lube or washing up liquid to put them on. It will always twist.

The best most effective way is Hairspray.
Spray inside the grips and all around the bar so its basically dripping with it.
Then slid it on, line it up. When it dries it will stick it even more in place.

  • Yea I've been using hairspray to get on the grips on my Nagasawa. Worked like a charm.

  • Looking forward to seeing this built up, Nagasawa is lovely.

Was tempted by the Tempra track nuts before, is their enough meat on the hex tool to torque up suitably?

  • Yes, defiantly enough to torque it properly. TEMPRA tool is made to the highest standard, and the nuts.
(I don't know if this matters, but they are insanely light weight too compared to normal track nuts.)

  • Cheers, will be adding to my xmas wish list.

  • Are those track nuts a two piece design because it doesn't look like it in the photos. Seems like it would make a mess of the dropouts when tightening them up if not.

  • It doesn't have a 'serrated flange' that Cheaper solid-axle hubs use that bite into the metal on the drop.
TEMPRA have a flat face with grooves, which leaves no mess to the drops.

  • Just got stung on import taxes for the frame...

  • I was worried that the white paint job was going to be boring compared to some of the lavish colours you can get. But it's actually amazing, really lush.

Covered the original Keirin race ticket with a transparent cover. Should keep most of the dirt and rain away.

Attached the CNC RIDEA brake lever. Great build quality with 25.4 clamp size. Fits perfectly onto the Nitto centre shim with the stem.

Went for simple white brake cable, considered gold to match the Samson gold lines but could not find an exact colour match.

Dia-compe clamp on brake. Kind of ugly but, I prefer riding in London with a brake.
Considering getting the silver clamps and black bracket sprayed matching pearl white so it looks more in keeping with the build.
(Will tidy up the white plumbers tape on the forks closer to completion)

  • Have to say those grips on the tops really don't do it for me. Just looks odd, mainly. Especially on such a gorgeous frame. But whatever works for you of course!

Interesting to read you're going to build it up similarly to your Nagasawa. Wouldn't this be the ideal opportunity to go in a little bit of a different direction? Otherwise you have two almost identical bikes, I dunno. Keen to see how it will turn out when finished though!

  • I'm sure it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I'm excited by the way it's going. Really enjoying the build.

(Just passed my stage 3 tonight at lee valley, extra stoked)

  • Have to agree with @Tijs regarding first point but I do appreciate that it is classic japanese fixeh skidder tradition.

Looking nice, white NJS frame always look tidy.

  • Small update;
    Sugino SG75 NJS Crankset, 170mm
