use a long screwdriver shaft to gently pry the clamp open a little as you slide the bars in

It really wasn't going past the bend next to the clamping area. However at the time I wasn't confident that the bar clamp area and the Jag were compatible so I didn't want to try too hard and damage them.

Use the penny trick
I has an old Easton EA50 riser, maybe circa 2005, which should be 25.4 and a Jaguar stem, also 25.4. However when I tried to fit the bugger it just wasn't playing balls. The two shouldn't be mutually exclusive right? Anyone got any tips for fitting it?
