Band on derailleur too big for seat tube

Posted on
  • I'm in the process of moving my current groupset (Ultegra 6800) from my previous build onto a new frameset I'm building up. Whilst the band-on derailleur I have fits my previous frame perfectly, it's too big for the new build as it has a slimmer seat tube. Has anyone experienced this issue? I don't think Ultegra band on derailleurs come in different sizes..is there some kind of split shim I could install to make up for the excess space or something? Thanks in advance

  • Yeah make a shim. Job done.

  • Any advice on how to go about doing that?

  • Go to your LBS and see what's in their spares bin; Condor sorted me with a MTB shim that worked with a road FD for nada

  • You can buy shims, Shimano make them (seriously) and they're practically invisible when installed. I'm pretty sure I got mine from my friendly LBS, it's worth asking around as it's the sort of thing bike shops will have left over in their workshops.

  • Thanks people
