Have a red road frame, an acacio, it's a 50cm I think, Italian bb. Rear spacing is 128mm as it came with an 8spd group set..
Picture of it below built up.
Looking for £140 frame and forks, open to offers.Let me know.

Thanks, I'll bear it in mind but I'd like to see if there are several options available.
It does kind of have to be "pretty" looking -

no worries, having built/brought a couple of bikes for the other half, understand the tightrope you're walking.

Hi Phil, this might be a bit small for your gf as it's 48 c-t, but it is exceedingly pretty (look at that built in rear rack) and while it needs some work I think it would make a nice project, let me know if it's any good. Bear in mind it'll need a 24 inch wheelset and short crankset though...

I think I'd rather go easy on myself and find something with normal size bits ha
Thanks Kev -

Phil, how about a mixte frame? If that's a possibility let me know as I have something...
-
• #12
Yeah definitely. Probably better in fact. Since she'd prefer something more upright positioned

Cool, here's the mixte I had in mind Phil, it's 49cm c-t, lots of cosmetic wear but no dents etc. It's a modern steel frame, not sure what brand but let me know if interested, cheers Kev.

Any idea what it weighs? And how much are you after? I'm not sure she'll go for it but it's a possibility
-
• #15
Will weigh it when I get some new batteries for my bathroom scales, but it's steel, so definitely not lightweight, price-wise how about £25?

Thanks Kev but on reflection, I think I'm gonna hold out for something a bit special. Maybe nice lugs or something.
Thanks -
• #17
No worries mate, yeah maybe if it's fancier she'll be more likely to use it which is the main thing, cheers.

Right, still looking. A full bike would be of interest too. Definitely going more towards mixte/step through from feedback about bikes we've seen around town.

Kev, have you got a single speed wheel that'll go in this if you've still got it? I might have it off you for a temporary fix

There was a really nice ladies bike on ebay as a friend was looking but too small for her..hang on a tick.
EDIT, here you go, get some decent alloy rims and replace the chainset with a nice alloy job and that will knock a load of weight off http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Classic-Gitane-Enghein-Randonneur-Mixte-Frame-Bicycle-Eroica-Ready-/291866497713?hash=item43f49952b1:g:AvsAAOSwFV9Xzt47
I built up a Raleigh Royale (531 f&f) about 10 years back with Ultegra/bar end shifters and modern wheels, it was a 22" frame and came in at 10.9kg with mudguards. More recently a Gitane ladies (as below) that had Vitus tubing of no real note and that was 10kg. Personally a few hundred grams saved on the frame isn't going to make a heap of difference and finding something, pretty, light and not too spendy is always very difficult.I've tended to suggest going for an older Stronglight chainset like the 99 or 80/100/200 or even the Sakae/Ringyo Apex with the 86mm BCD as it will shave a lot of weight off even compared to modern cranks and give you a 28T inner ring option for hillier rides. They also don't tend to cost much as they aren't fashionable.
luck finding something though.

Hey Phil, yeah I've got a single speed wheelset that'll go with that mixte frame, will check the rear spacing and get back to you...
I'm looking to pick up a frame for project "get girlfriend to cycle"
I don't have anything to specific in mind but it just needs to be comfortable for her so that she's not put off.
Something quite relaxed geo wise, her previous bike was a pashley type town bike.
Quite small, 50cm ish
Mixte style or normal TT, but hopefully quite lightweight and it seems Mixtes generally only went as good as 531
I'd like a bit of a project so I'm probably looking at just frame and forks but I'll consider different options.
Anything around at the moment?
