• Mercian Touring / Audax Bicycle, made from 531 Reynolds steel.

    22.5" / 56cm frame - measured C-C, 56cm Toptube C-C.

This frame is from 1984, frame number 77884.

It has been built up with a mix of components as follows:

    • Campagnolo hubs laced to Wolber rims.
    • Campagnolo rear mech, front mech and shifters (Nuovo Record) and brakes and levers (Gran Sport).
    • 100mm Cinelli Stem, 38cm Cinelli bars
    • Stronglight headset
    • Suntour chainset
    • 6 speed cassette
    • 27.2 Campagnolo Seat pin
    • Turbo Saddle

It is running some 28c Conti tyres at the moment, but I can provide some brand new 23c tyres with it. I have put new cables and outers on too.

It has been stored well, in the shed and / or loft for the interim. The paint work is great, but there are a few touch up marks from a previous owner.

It's been a wonderful audax bicycle, has eyelets for mudguards / racks, so also suitable as a winter bike.

The bike is located in Bath, but I come to London often with work, so could either arrange to drop off. Happy to ship for £25 if all else fails.

    £450.00

  • Glad it's not my size as this is a great price! Surely worth £600+?

  • Might have a colleague who would be interested in this for L'Eroica 2017.

Is it original paint and any idea what model this would have been?

  • So I did some investigative work a little while back to try and work this out... The frame shows some consistencies with the 'Olympic' model and the 'Classic' - but I was told that as many of these frames were custom built in the 80's, the original owner could have chosen some parts over others. Maybe others here will be able to help?

I can't believe that the paint is original (given the condition) - however, it was looked after well by the old boy that I bought it from, so I wouldn't be surprised. It has been touched up in places by him, and virtually unused by me.

  • If you supply Mercian the frame number and £10 they'll supply any details they have on the frame/bike.
I did it recently but all that came back was "it's an off the shelf frame" however I think it can be very specific, incl colour, lugs, geometry and brazeons etc obviously depending on how specific original purchase was.
They quote a week but it can take longer.

  • Damn. Don't need a stereo do you..?

  • Is this still available?
