• I'm looking to do some tinkering with some old forks and frames. I have plenty of tools for assembly but nothing for cutting/extending threads on 1" forks, tapping BB shells or facing headtubes/crown races etc.

Is there a place where I can hire and use these tools in Central/North/East London?

    Thanks

  • London Bike Kitchen in Hoxton?

  • I think @xkittyx works there..

  • Micycle in Islington will have most of that kit, and is set up to allow you to do the work. Not sure about a thread extender though. Drop them a line.

  • Nice one, ta for the suggestions. I've fired an email to LBK and will do the same to Micycle.

  • Best off calling them.
I think they are still 12 p/hr to use facilities.

  • Call them - you won't get a response to an email because Bike Shop.

  • OK ta very much 2 both of you, that's a good idea.

  • Hey! I do work at lbk, we don't have the chasing/tapping/threading tools that you wanna use at the moment, they'll be coming with the new space we're working on hopefully.
    Try Micycle Islington out :)

  • @xkittyx Many thanks I appreciate you coming back to me.
When do you think your new space will be ready approximately.

  • I spoke to the chap at Micycle. He said they dont rent out any facing tools as they're too expensive/prone to damage etc. He said I should try LBK, which was nice as I guess they're a competitor.
He's gave me a very competitive quote.

    Thanks for the suggestions

  • Bike Works at Bethnal Green on Cambridge Heath Road have a threading tool, used it on fork steerer once and they didn't charge me!

  • He's gave me a very competitive quote.

Thats good! Usually if you buy a membership with them (£30 or so) you can use the tools - and the pricey ones if you are supervised by Ben... if you ask nicely and buy lots of beers :)

  • cheers @GreatSince78 that's a good shout. @Howard on the phone and they "sort of" implied there was some discretion. The problem for me is that it's not that close to me so major hassle carting frames/forks and therefore I probably wouldn't be in enough for them to get to get to know me but 100% agree beer does tend to loosen things up!
    Cheers

  • No worries mate, on Thursday evening at Saturday afternoons they have a "fix your own bike" session in their workshop. If you rock up during one of them they'll let you loose with their threading tool, happy hunting!
