Actually for less money than the Bowman I can get something like a Saracen and bin all the parts. http://www.tredz.co.uk/.Saracen-Hack-R-2016-Cyclocross-Bike_83431.htm
Doing some more research it seems the lower end cyclocross bikes are the ones that tend to have mudguard mounts.
Anyone know what the tyre clearance is like on a CaadX?

I've been looking at similar.
Caadx
Eastway Balun
GT Grade
PX London Road
Pinnacle Arkose
Boardman thingys?Deals on all right now.

Although GT doesn't have any mounts I don't think.

"Gravel" and "Adventure bike" is the more fashionable lingo encompassing those attributes I reckon.
Been mulling over something similar and of course keep returning to psee's lovely Rychtarski build...

I saw a Gunnar Crosshairs that I thought looked very tasty. It fits the bill except for rear disc brake mounts, but you could fit a suitable fork to get a disc brake up front where it really counts.
Super-pricey though.

Soma Wolverine or All-City Space Horse disc. Both maybe a bit on the spendy side.

I've been looking at those. The problem is I want to put some specific parts on it like a single chainring, hydro disks etc. May have to resort to buying a whole bike and selling most of the parts.

How about a Genesis Croix De Fer, all three of the 2016 models have decent clearances, disc brakes and mounts for guards....

Brother Kepler? Might let mine go...

Seems to tick your boxes; custom colour available aswell. Also seems pretty light for a steel frame.

I've had a good long look at the cheaper end of the market and not enamoured with any. Did have vague thoughts of getting London Road frame as very cheap in sale, then spraying orange, poor man's Open Up.

A remote forest in the middle of Bavaria; makes you wonder why he bothered with that fancy get up.
I want to build a new bike that I can use as a winter roadie, commuter and cyclocross bike. So it needs room for big tyres/mud clearance, disk brakes, mudguard mounts. I can find cyclocross bikes that nearly fit the bill but they don't generally have mudguard mounts.
Does that exist?
