Feels like the standard for road and cross disc forks is now 1 1/4" tapered.
That said the Audax crowd will take a while to shift over.
Go for tapered if you want more options. There will still be 1 1/8th forks for a while yet. You just might not like the ones that are available.

It's weird looking at tapered for a step through...but thanks, Howard.

Hah yeah. That'll be weird.
Be interested to see what you go for in the end.

Have you had a 1" bike collapse due it's headset being one inch?

How long you need the fork to be?
Option in 1/8 are fairly limited. Either utter crap or expensive with no mudguard eyelets. The only one is Van Nicholas but that's cross lenght.I'd go 1.5 tapered. Lots of options, budget China carbon or the likes of kinesis. Or Trp.
I've totally missed the developments in fork design. I thought I was being all cutting edge and shit by planning for a traditional 1 1/8" (external cups)
But I've seen a few posts suggesting 1 1/8" is on the way out. Is this true? What kind of time frame?
I'm after a carbon disc fork with clearance for a mudguard and upto 32 tires if not 28s.
