My suggestion would be
Holborn
Regents Park
Notting Hill
HammersmithThere's a fairly quiet / pleasant route that links those places up with some dedicated infra too.
Then either
a) north along the river, traffic free, until you get to Kew then head south and follow the river, traffic free
or b) head over the river at hammsmith bridge then follow the quiet route to Richmond park.
I can dig out some Garmin traces if you are interested.

That is a good mix of nice and quick.
Priory Rd may be shit but there is a cycle path if peeps need it. -

Thanks for the help
This is the tfl route with some tweaks - https://goo.gl/maps/xS8jX3Wqr1D2
But I like the idea of riding through Regents Park more, it's a lovely place to cycle in. And I definitely haven't been that way down through Hammersmith and Barnes. Looks like a lovely route, thanks @|³|MA3K, really appreciate your mapping help! Definitely better than the route on google maps above

This is the 'quiet' route to richmond park - by traveling north to take this route you miss out the cluster-fuck that is Kensington.

Thanks. Taken some inspiration from that and used google to change the route

I reckon when you get to the end of Duchess of Bedford Walk before Holland Park you should just go straight through past the Cafe and then go through the park and then weave through
You should also check your route once your south of the river against the one @|³|MA3K sent through because although it looks like a straight footpath/cycleway on the Chiswick Mall what bits you can actually cycle on weaves a bit. And this is personal preference, but Hammersmith Bridge is one of my favs and even though it's not great to cycle on it it's great to cycle through it

Thanks everyone for your help with this. 4 of us (there were a few drop outs) rode the route last night, it was great. If you're interested, this was the final route - https://www.strava.com/activities/579261259
@Youramercianlover - we didn't cut through Holland Park as it was quite busy round there, if I go this way again I'll definitely try that though. You are right about Hammersmith Bridge, I ended up cycling all the way home (20 miles on my little brompton clown bike) and went via the Bride, while it wasn't a nice surface it was a very cool bridge
Hi folks
I've arranged a little social ride to Richmond after work, for people I work with. I work near Bloomsbury Square and we're finishing at the Roebuck in Richmond for some dinner.
We'll have a mix of cycling abilities so it'll be a relaxed and friendly pace. And riding everything from road bikes to shoppers and bromptons. I'm fine cycling around London on my own or with a couple of others, but there'll be around 8 of us so I'd like to use quieter roads so we can keep together. Even some of the cycle lanes could force into a longer line and mean we get split up, although if there's no other options that's still better than a busy road
I'm from North London so am fine picking up local quiet roads heading in that direction, but heading SW I know very little about good routes
Can anyone share any routes or roads that would be good? Using google maps throws up a route that I don't know much about!
