  • Just won this CAAD7 On ebay,

Its got some real decent parts with it, so im going to be keeping most of it and cleaning it up and just making it look a lot more sleek!

First things on the list are changing the post, bars and stem removing that bright yellow tape, and fitting some new brakes and cables (ebay description said the rear brake needed replacing)

Im going for as many black parts as possible I think, and maybe some gumwall tires.

    Now just to arrange collection!

Will update with proper photos once i get my mits on it.

  • In need of a little advice/double checking.

replacing the brake callipers on this as the rear has had it and I'd like to get something nicer looking anyway.
the levers that its got is Campag record ultra, I'm trying to find out if theres any issues when using other brand calipers? most info i can find online is about shimano's shift to a new system that pulls more cable but thats obviously not as relevant to me. (unless i buy shimano callipers of course)

can anyone tell me if its best to stick with Campag callipers or if I can (as I understand) use SRAM and older Shimano.

still not seen the bike myself in person yet as my dad has picked it up for me.

  • Generally folk like to keep it inline/consistent. But no reason why you cant use dura ace brakes with a campagnolo groupset. Whats the issue with the brakes you have?

  • Thanks @Thrasher as it was advertised the rear brake is a bit knackered

The guy said "the winter months have taken their toll on the alloy" not really sure what this means as the calipers themselves are titanium, but my dad has confirmed that it seems like the bit that holds the coil has eroded/snapped off. Not sure how so im just thinking play it on the safe side and replace them both.

This is the photo from ebay of the problem, I cant really make it out.

  • Not sure about different pull ratio's, but more modern calipers should give better braking regardless of what levers being used. (I have a new 6800 brake on my fixed, with a basic Tektro lever and its a massive improvement on the old one there).
One thing to know, is that Campag brakes don't have a QR lever, instead you let the cable out from the shifter, so you couldn't run Campag brakes with SRAM/Shimano gears, but the reverse - what you're thinking about - will be fine

  • So still looking for some nice callipers for this if anyone has any going?

  • also having thought about this its probably going to be less "black on black" than I originally thought, I want gumwalls now, and maybe some silver parts.

  • I want gunwales now

  • Touche, would rep.

  • Finally got this back to london last weekend and had some time to work on it last night.

Stripped all the parts off ready for a deep clean on saturday (hopefully). I cant take the cranks/bb out though as I need cannondales own removal tools (if anyone fancies lending me these you would be the best!)

  • This y0!

  • Most of the parts that have been taken off,

I will be replacing the following:
    bottle cages
    Pedals
    Stem
    Brake calipers (atleast the rear)
    Seatpost

Just had an Ali express delivery yesterday with some carbon copycat cages.

  • Grime on the forks looks years old. The whole thing is gonna look 10x better just after a clean!

  • The weave on the forks is rad

  • Made in the Time factory in France by fairies and elves

Really great forks by all accounts

  • Also several of us have the Si crank tools. PM me if you still need them.

  • Haha thanks for the V accurate info on the forks, i was surprised that they were full carbon when i first got it as i've not been too familiar with them and my housemate has/had a pair with an alu steerer, extremely light abd nice looking they just need some TLC.

And thankyou i'll PM you at some point to borrow the tool if you dont mind as the BB is running a little gritty.

Im in 2 halves about the cranks also, I dont really like that they are silver with black chainrings but love that they are so light, maybe i'll change the chainrings and spider to silver ones to match.

  • FYI the bits that ive listed as replacing will all probably be available too, so if anyone wants any of it PM me and we can work something out, at the moment im lookig for a new rear caliper or a pair.

  • I'd be surprised if that CAAD7 wasn't top of the line; BB30 and Time fork = nice and pricey.

Not sure there is a silver road spider tho....you could try and get a spiderring and remove the anno - that would be interesting. Or just remove the black anno from the existing spider.

  • Black spider with gold rings.

  • This. Do it.

  • With silver crank arms? Nah not into that idea tbh.

  • Yeah @PhilDAS has a crazy green one which I might purchase off of him and de anno, its also the weblike spider

I was basically surprised because I know hardly anything about road stuff so its all new to me, the more I look at the parts though the more I think I got a great deal on ebay here!
