  • I have regretfully decided to sell this frame since I am finding less and less time to dedicate to road riding. It is a wonderful all day ride type frame - I believe one of these was built up for one of the riders in the japanese rapha continental (a black and pink one can certainly be seen in one of the videos). It has been my 'continental bike' while I have owned it.

I bought this frame second hand and unfortunately it does have a dent in the seat tube caused from an over tightened band on front derailleur. I have ridden it on and off for the last two years with no issues whatsoever. The dent feels about a millimeter deep and extends over an area of about 1cm x 2cm. I have tried to show this on pictures.

    Price is £650.

I live in North Kent (Sevenoaks) so can either post the frame to you or meet for collection.

It is worth noting that this is the older version with semi-horizontal dropouts. It takes medium reach brakes and will fit a 33(ish)mm cross tire (I have run Challenge Grifo xs on it before with no issues).

  • Hi there.......I am interested in your frame.
I am 187 tall, had a look at the chart.i think it is the correct size for me, what do you think, how tall are you??

    Cheers
    Alan

  • 56 is ok for 187cm. I am a bit below 180 and 56 is a bit too big, but just a bit.

  • I'm also a bit below 1,80 and everything between 55-57 works just fine for me. As long as the toptube is a little bit shorter than the seat tube. But I thought for 187cm something 57,58,59ish would be more adequate. Of course, there are many other factors such as the relation between the length of your legs and your upper body. But according to the rule of thumb, I thought 56 was a little too small for 1,87 or am I totally wrong? I'm genuinely interested!
P.s. I have one 54 frame and for my legs to be straight at the lowest point of the pedal, I have to adjust the seatpost to the highest possible point and the seatpost is not particularly short.
@crow sorry for spamming your sales thread...

  • Hi, I am 183cm and I think this fits me pretty well. I would usually have about 20cm of post showing (my marker was just at the bottom of the thomson logo on my seatpost) and used a 100mm stem. This is the fit recommended by the WrenchScience online website rather than my own fallible judgement! I have previously only ridden a 57 or 58cm frame but I felt far more comfortable after switching to a 56cm.

Alan, you would maybe want a couple more cm showing on the seatpost and perhaps a longer stem. Let me know if you are still interested!

  • Hi again......sorry about the delay.......I have been thinking.i think it is too small, I have measured my other bikes and am pretty sure it would come up a little small for me,
    Cheers
    Alan

  • I'm 6'2" - 189cm tall and I ride a 63cm frame. It really depends on bottom bracket height, leg length, etc. See what's best for you.

  • I agree......to be honest I never really know until the frame is built up. Personal preference is also an issue......I think I prefer a slightly spread out style.
Pains me to pass but I will. I have an indeed fab crown jewel to build.......will see how that goes.

  • What I will say, however, is that a 63cm frame fits me, but I have drop bars, and because of the frame size, they can't be as low as I would like them to be, so, if you like your handlebars as low as they can get, someone around 6'1"-6'2" should get something like a 56cm frame, otherwise, you could easily go up to a 60-63cm, and have less seatpost showing, it's all personal preference

  • Price drop - £550

  • Take it this sold!

  • It's a nice bike

  • Yup. Not made anymore either.. think I missed out. Anyone else making production lugless steel frame sets with clearance for proper mudguards? Only one I can think of is the Soma ES.

    Mad that there aren’t more.

  • Mad that there aren’t more.

    There are plenty

  • Really? Lugless road framesets? Soma, Surly Pacer.. I’m stuck.

  • It's an amazing frame. It can't really be compared to a run of the mill frame. Mainly because of the tubing used, ride quality etc.

Plenty of options but not as nice

  • Genesis, all city, I'll come up with more

  • Frameset though, eg steel frame and fork. Genesis and All City both carbon unless you count the 853 Equilibrium which is limited or the disc 631... which isn’t really a road bike in the spirit of a Cielo.

I’d dearly love a Cielo, or a Signal Saltzman. Sigh...

  • And as you say, none of the above will ride like a Cielo. There are steel bikes and there are steel bikes.

My old DeKerf and Pinarello are in a different league to my (sold) 853 Genesis or my Presige Charge. The new steels are not as supple even from the same tubeset

  • Unless your frameset is of older date or priced well over a grand it will ride like a tank.

The days where Otp bikes were build of light tubesets are long gone.

Like gunnar frames or Salsa. Platinum Ox all the way.

  • Hmm, are Gunnar available in the uk?

  • Not anymore I presumme. They used to be via Rock n Road in South Hampton.

If you can buy from States, you should. Lot better than many custom outfits.

  • Agree with @broken_777

Own both Gunnar and Salsa Platinum OX frames, both excellent rides.

@user72106 what size frame do you ride? My 55cm Sq Salsa La Raza is surplus to requirements

  • That salsa.....
