Part of the next instalment. I've got the frame and forks now and waiting for the stem which Jim, @jimjamosullivan, has made. I'm getting a little excited.
Here is a nice picture of the frame and forks before I unpacked them and below is a link to more images.

Very interesting frame.
Why the double-seatstays? -
• #7
^yeah, why? Looks really good. Paint plan?
-

I'll have to ask @jimjamosullivan for the technical reasons over and above my assumption that it might make the rear end a bit stiffer.
I really liked the rear details when I saw it and it was that which persuaded me to get Ji to finish the frame to my specifications/needs.

Paint plan might be pretty complicated buy here goes.
Blue and white, as I'm a Spurs supporter along with a few others here such as @sacredhart. I will never buy a red bike!!
Main triangle and chain stays will be a dark blue with, possibly white panels on the main triangle. Seat stays will be blue and white with the ones which have the rear brake bridge being blue and the others white or vice versa. The brake bridge will be gold to show it off. Head badge will be white with gold lug lining, as on all the lugs, to show them off.
I'm thinking of gold or silver on the fork crowns with the fork blades in blue
Painting is likely to be done by Colourtech in Crayford as it will be quite a comples job and although I have previously used Mario Vaz, as on here - https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/216355/?offset=50#comment12448909, the complexity of this one warrants a slightly better and more delicate hand.
Keep watching as I can't see the painting being completed before the end of October so the bike will not be built up until the spring.

This is awesome.
I think the double stays will stand out more if they are the same colour though. Imho. -

Back to some serious stuff about this here bike project.
Since picking it up at the weekend I've had a chance to drag some wheels out and the box of components so here are images of how it might look. The only thing I'm waiting for is the stem, which @jimjamosullivan is going to drop off in the next day or so, then I can make it really look like a bike.
There is a link below to more pictures of it. About the only thing that will change is the wheelset which is a set of Record track hubs laced to Mavic SUP rims. Proper old school as they are 36/40-hole. I'll probably also keep a tubular Record wheelset for high days and holidays.

Looking forward to seeing this painted - looks like you've got a few parts already. What's the ETA on the trailer for Jack? ;)
-

I've pretty much got everything it is just the painting and subsequent wait for it to harden that will delay getting this on the road. I'm sure it will be great when I finally get to ride it properly next year!!!!

jack's the dog right?

Now I'm getting confused. I definitely know @jambon as I remember lending/giving him somethng then we had another transaction. Have we met @Rodolfo? If yes, accept my apologies and let me know what/why/when? I'm an old man now and the memory is not what it used to be!!!!
Jack is definitely the dog, a lovely blonde Labrador ex-guide dog.

Another update which I'm very late in posting is the bike mock-up now that I've got everything together. Apologies for including too much of Mrs NLL's kitchen. Actually it should be my kitchen as I'm head chef and ironer in west London!!
More are here

Paint plan update.
I was talking to Josh, a mechanic at LMNH this morning and he has a lovely raw finish Cinelli and that has got me thinking. Here goes
Main tubes apart from head tube, chain stays and forks all to be raw with a nice lacquer with a touch of blue to protect the metal. Some gold lug lining to highlight and add a touch of class.
Head tube white with badge in blue and lug lined with gold.
Seat stays white for pair which attach to the brake bridge/badge which will be in blue. The other two will be blue.I think that this will mean I'm going to have to change some of the components as some of Weinmann parts have red touches but on reflection it iss only on the brake levers as I'll probably get a modern long-drop front brake.

A wheel update.
I was planning to use my lovely hand built wheelset that had been made for me by Woolsey of Acton, LBS of repute just around the corner from Mrs NLL, when I spotted these here and free!!

@Dropped.Bars had a mismatched, in colour as well as drilling, pair of Mavic tubular rims so I've scored those for free. It will be good as the Record hubs are 32/40 and the wheels as built were done using two 40-hole rims so now they will be perfect.Link here to VeloBase for details of the rims

Glad I could help. Cool project!
Lets start with a nice picture
It is an interesting story but first I must get a quick boost for my for sales thread in as the bikes there are an integral part of the tale. - http://www.lfgss.com/conversations/282210/#comment12848510
I wasn't intending to build another bike as I or rather we , as it is Mrs NLL and myself, have a long term plan to move to Crediton, Devon to retire and enjoy some picturesque riding in the Devon countryside. For those who don't know Crediton is about 8 miles north west of Exeter but, more importantly, bewteen Dartmoor and Exmoor. This area is pretty scenic, cycling code for hilly. Do we want fixed gear bikes there, possibly not. However, I have two and Mrs NLL has a beautiful Mercian that I built up to replace her stolen Condor Pista. The fixed gear stuff has to go hence my putting the link to the sales thread!!
What, I ask you, has that to do with my posting here about a custom path racer build, if I am getting rid of two perfectly serviceable fixies as they wont suit what will be our new lifestyle. Well, it has a lot to do with this forum as the frame has been built by a forum member and I'll be getting parts from other forum members
Now back to the tale. It started several months back when I was drinking coffe in 2&4 Vintage Gallery & Furniture on Southgate Road, N1. The owner, Maurice, asked me if I knew that there were two guys in the main building who are starting to build bike frames. I immediately thought I'd try and see them but somehow that never happened. Month later Maurice again asked me if I'd been to see them and if I knew the Irish guy, James, who was building frames. Once more I replied that I hadn't got round to visiting but the name of the framebuilder jogged my memory.
After finishing my coffee and before continuing my walk with Jack, the beautiful Labrador cross Guide Dog I look after I popped into the yard but was unable to see which unit the work was being carried on in. Later I sent a message t0 James O'Sullivan, our very own @jimjamosullivan, who I'd had dealings with in the past. I knew that he has pretensions on being a frame builder as he was doing a welding course at College of North West London. Shortly afterwards I got a response to my PM and sure enough the mystery framebuilder was Jim.
I'll leave the story there and continue later but, in the mean time below is a link to some pictures of the frame. Comments are always welcome.
