More of a question here, have you considered single speed converter using multi speed hub?
If yes, what makes a freewheel better in your opinion? -

Why not look at 135mm, if it's a cross check it'll take either.

Dish and weight probably
Doing the same thing for @Doctor_Cake except fixed.

Have I just broken a rule or summat?
Maybe suggesting, dare I say it, he look at mtb hubs! -

Surly ultra are fixed/ss MTB hubs :)
135mm tend to be trials hubs. Which might be ok.
Converting an MTB front and using a bolt on cog is an option, for fixed at least.

Ah, thrown by the mention of 130mm in title, assumed the Ultras were 130. My bad. I'll get me coat.

Ultras come in pretty much every OLD.

So I have now seen. Phil Wood do awesome hubs, if the budget allows, maybe White Industries.

I've been using this: http://www.cnc-bike.de/product_info.php?products_id=1304 (the disc version, though) for a while, and been nothing but satisfied.

I had the same problem and decided to buy a Miche Primato Hub (OLD = 120 mm).
Just add a 10 mm spacer to the non drive side which gives you the same spoke length on both sides. This will alter the chainline! I have it laced to a Mavic Open Pro CD with Sapim Race spokes (294 mm) (3 cross 32 hole).
Here is a picture of the hub with the spacer...

I'm converting my Cross Check to a single speed for around-town duties. Planning on building a new rear wheel on a Surly Ultra New Hub as it has the right OLD and can also be locked in with a security skewer.
I've done some research, and there wasn't much else that fitted the bill that I could find. Just wondering if anyone knows of any other options?
Thanks
