  • bcd looks odd on the first gen (to my knowledge the rings center circle is the same on both bcds - the holes are further in on the ring on 151s) and it does not have the raised lip and closed back.. nice posters tho :)

  • well the bcd is obviously bigger on the 151. and yes, there is no rised lip version of the 1051 model, kind of forgot about it...

  • Beautiful poster! Brings back memories of those Campa wall presentations at the shops of my youth. Couple of questions.

    1. Was not the very first generation made in 1958-59? It was, if I recall correctly, just like their first road (strada) version and had a raised lip. I think they changed a few things in 1960-- also pedal holes etc.
    2. You show an inch block chainring. Inch block chainrings were, to my knowledge, not standard but an option. Campagnolo as a technical leader and innovator was part of the move to roller chains, aluminum alloys and precision machining. Innovation at the time meant 1/2" pitch roller chains. These 1" pitch chainrings (what these days are also called skip tooth) were pretty standard in the track world for many decades and continued to be offered up into the 1960s. Track cycling has afterall tended to be more conservative than road.
    3. I don't think I've ever seem Campagnolo 144 skip tooth chainrings so I imagine that the "Special Record" was intended from the get-go only for roller chains--- which makes sense given that the change was to allow for chainrings smaller than 47t (the lower limit for their 151 design), something that was demanded by multigeared road but not the track. To my knowledge Campagnolo continued to make 151 BCD chainrings well after their introduction of 144BCD in 1966.
