• Took my wheel which had a ss conversion kit and stuck lockring to an LBS that I don't normally visit. I left it with them and came back to find they had used an angle grinder to remove the lockring and the end of my freehub! WTF

The freehub I need is FH-SC015 , for my Vento G3 (non oversize 12mm axle) but also used on Khamsin. While Im trying to resolve this utter f**k up with the LBS has anyone got a spare? (they've offered to order me one at a discounted price but I dont see why they should get any money, Im trying to get them to pay for a replacement but need the wheels up and running asap).

    Cheers

  • cant see the image mate?

  • Which LBS?

  • Its in Bristol, not going to slam their business on here as might have just had bad staff in that day, but if you're local I will PM you their name!

  • You're not missing anything: I just searched for "epic WTF gif" and posted the first result.

It was definitely a bike shop and not a breaker's yard?

  • It might as well have been I couldn't believe my eyes , they told me it was 'the only option'

how about take the freehub off and soak in some oil !

  • I suppose it is a hard part to remove when seized. im guessing the notches on the lock ring ripped off and not much thought was put in to finding a solution. Im trying to think how this could have been solved.. folding edges of the lock ring back until you could grip it enough to crush it inwards away from the thread? tricky with the axle there but surely splitting it somehow would have been a better option.

  • The notches were fine, it was just seized . I appreciate sometimes there is no saving a part, but I would have also appreciated a phone call to say , we're about to try this, do you want us to carry on? Anyway its done, more importantly I need to find the freehub.

  • ... but I would have also appreciated a phone call...

Presumably taking an angle grinder to someone's wheel isn't out of the ordinary for them: fix puncture, wrap bars, hack bits off someone's wheel, same old same old...

  • Fucking hell.

  • I think fh-bu015 will fit as well as long as it's for a 12mm axle , cheers

  • That is shocking. Id want a hub replacement for that.

  • I actually spoke to the store manager yesterday, he sounded pretty shocked himself and was very apologetic, sounds like the shop attendants in that day weren't actually experienced mechanics so shouldn't have attempted it, he's ordered me a replacement f.o.c
