More info in a follow-up story:
Get well soon, Damien.
-
• #4
Yeah heal up dude, hope you get a witness to sort their shit out and get in touch. We need a big twitter campaign to find this fucker who tried to kill you.

Damien has launched a crowdfunding appeal because as a courier he had no protection in case of injury.
The apparent lack of good witnesses (judging by the police's continuing search for them) is worrying and the driver still doesn't seem to have been found.

The story has been updated, 23 year old woman arrested.
-

Wager: she is not charged with attempted murder....

A 23-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of GBH with intent, failing to stop at scene of collision and injury by dangerous driving. She was bailed until next month.

Good to hear there's a lead at last. That Damien couldn't remember the card shows again in what a vulnerable state victims of crashes often are.

The latest update--the driver has been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving:
It doesn't say if the other original charges are still in place, but I suppose we'll hear about that once news of the trial outcome filters through.

Is there a charge of attempted manslaughter? Seems like there should be.
-
• #12
There is no such thing as attempted manslaughter in UK common law.
I'm sure the CPS struggled with what to charge her.
-
• #13
Thanks; that's what I was wondering.
-
• #14
I'm sure the CPS struggled to be bothered enough to charge her.

Prosecutors want to send bad people who do bad things to prison. This is only mitigated by their desire to prosecute a successful case.
Inadequate laws, victim-blaming juries, cultural belief that cycling is inherently dangerous...yada, yada, yada.

If they could prove the car was used as a weapon then it could be GBH with intent or attempted murder, but it looks like they have not gone down that route and have opted for the charge of causing injury, which would be easier to prove.

There is horrible cctv of the crash. Looks like a strategic pregnancy.

The outcome of the court case: Three years in prison.

It appears the CCTV footage has been published. I haven't watched it:

Damien was absolutely right to say what he said, my brother has done the same on his Ducati.

I quite agree. (edited) sorry @Oliver Schick, had no intention of trivialising a grave matter but concur this was probably a strategic pregnancy
-
• #23
As I have no idea what advantages, if any, a pregnancy might give to someone who's about to go to prison, and as I would not assume that if there were any, someone would choose to become pregnant solely for that reason, I can't concur, and it is also really quite irrelevant to discussion of the crash and its aftermath. Thanks for editing the previous comment, though.

This happened last Wednesday:
http://www.hackneygazette.co.uk/news/crime-court/road_rage_driver_ploughs_into_cyclist_after_tailing_him_down_stoke_newington_street_1_4422725
The rider appears to have been in hospital for the past week. I hope he gets well soon and the driver is found.
