Interested, any other information on it ?
I would imagine it's a 531 ST but some one else might know more about how or what he built his frames from. I don't think it was built in 1978... 1990 onwards?

George Longstaff is a true custom builder. He would have selected the best option for each tube in the frame - with 531 as the benchmark. Over and above the standard tube sets such as 531c 531st Columbus SL etc, most of the big tube manufacturers of the time also had a large selection of individual tubes with varying profiles and gauges to cater for large and small frames and different intended uses. The very best custom builders would select every tube for a custom frame and, because the whole frame wasn't made with a 'set' of frame tubes, they didn't always add a frameset decal. George Longstaff is without doubt one of the best. If this sort of detail floats yer boat then have a read of Tony Olivers book 'Touring Bikes, A Practical Guide'.

I dug up the sellers CTC post who I brought it from in 2011.
'full 531DS (Designer Select) tubing... ...I had this refinished by Longstaff 2 years ago in metallic red'

Got this message from Longstaff Cycles:
It was built in 1993.
This was built as a stock frame (as opposed to a custom) and is a 21.1/5 touring specification -

full 531DS (Designer Select) tubing.
I have a 531DS frameset. Specific decals were available but not for long IIRC. This is what I referred to above but, alongside that is the option to use the odd tube from, say, Columbus, in which case decals don't tell the whole story. -
