WANTED: Studio Monitors

Posted on
  • Dear Hive Mind,

I'm currently in the market for some studio monitors to replace my current pair. Budget is £500 max. After a 6-8" woofer, ideally with front-ported bass reflex (as will have to be close to wall). Have looked at Presonus/JBL/Neumann/Event but open to different offers.

If you've got any midrange monitors for sale, please let me know!

  • Heard these (and their bigger brothers) before and like them a lot, unfortunately I don't think I can take them as they have rear bass ports...but thanks dude.

  • not that im selling mine, but new isn't much over your budget.
Yamaha MSP5's I love mine. very neutral and clean. front ports. if your close to a wall, larger woofers probably aren't your friends.

  • @gretsch Thanks, haven't heard that model, will see if I can demo somewhere.

@1993 Yea Genelec and Adam sound great, I find them a little less "cold" than the yamahas (which is what makes them good monitors I think). I've never been impressed with KRKs, always sound flabby.

  • Iirc, dv247 had them end of last year in their showroom in Acton. Maybe give them a call.

If your mixing, you want something that sounds flat and neutral. Krks bass is way overhyped, defeats the point of the monitor.
But ultimately, as long as you learn the speaker's sound and how it will transition to other systems your all good :D

  • Hi Roops,

Got a pair of Urei 809 studio monitors if you are interested, no grills,
cabs are bit tired but drivers have been refoamed by JBL Pro shop,
    looking for £450.00 posted.
