Wanted - Lightweight 52 cm audax frame

  • As in the title, I've been looking around and the closest I can find is the hewitt carbon audax. But I'd like to save my pennies a bit if I can.

  • It says 1.12kg for a frame for that Hewitt. It is light but not light enough tbh. Good quality aluminium can weigh similar. Are you concentrating on purpose (audax) rather than kit? If so there would be more disc brake options these days. Genesis, Bowman and few more.

  • Thanks Amey, I'm trying to avoid discs so I can use it year round without rubbing, squealing etc. 28 mm tyres and full guards is my heaven. Which aluminium ones would you suggest?

  • 1.12kg "not light enough", why? A very lightweight alu frame (around the 1200-1300g mark) isn't suitable for audax style riding and invariably you'll not be able to fit wide tyres AND mudguards.
ANYTHING sub 2kg for frame/fork/headset is plenty light enough for an audax bike especially if you're on a budget. That can build into a sub 9.5kg bike Including mudguards with a bit of money spent on some decent wheels and contact points as opposed to meaningless couple of hundred gram weight saving on a frame costing 3/4/5 times more, the ride is more important than the outright frameset weight for an audax bike.
The kinesis TK3 was a good frame/fork combo, takes 28mm tyres WITH guards also the Tifosi audax range are very good VFM
