It's possible to repair a bb by welding a steel liner into the shell and cutting a new thread into it. I had this done to one of my frames by Argos in Bristol.
Otherwise, you can use a threadless bb but not with modern external bearing type chainsets.

One repair method which I had done on an old steel frame was to cut a slot through through BB shell from side to side, on the bottom side creating a slot along the full width. Mechanically close the gap with strong clamps and weld the slot closed and re-tap the threads. Dress off the excess weld and re-paint. It's a skilled job so find a good workshop - but it works.

Are we talking external bearing bb?
I wonder if the way the cranks hold the external bb cups together would mean gubbed threads are less of an issue?
But yeah, get an insert inserted of the threads filled with brass and recut.

Actually, with an external BB, it's more of an issue. If the 2 bearings aren't in line then the axle isn't going to run true.
With a modern sealed square taper unit, the drive side threads need to be true but the non-drive side aren't so critical as the cup only has to hold the unit's shell in place rather than the bearings.
Hi I have a frame related question,
If I have a steel frame with a stripped BB thread that can't be recut, what are my options if I want to run modern Campag on it? Is it possible?
Cheers
