Vintage thing with engine.

  • Has new tyres fitted now, is Nova registered, engine turns over and i will probably get it going this week. Engine is a Garelli Mosquito 49cc. I bought it coz it waz cool. £850 for a cult auto cycle. There is some big meeting the owners have in Italy which looks fun.

Tell me to take it off if its not for the forum.

    Its in Surrey.

  • This looks so coool

  • Any idea of the age? Pre 1975 would be exempt from Vehicle Excise Duty, pre 1960 would be eligible for MOT exemption...

might be worth joining if you want to use it on the road: help with dating certificates, vehicle registration, reduced insurance for club members etc.

  • very bants

  • Its 1954 or around that, the engine code I will look up, they made various sizes, this is a 49cc. The bicycle is really nice, someone extended the lh crank arm to accomodate the engine width. The engine is connected to the back tyre via a roller which engages once a. Lever is pushed forward.

  • With the engine being so low it looks a more stable proposition than my 1952 Trojan. It might be the frame flexing, or just top heavy, but corners at speed get exciting very quickly...

Dunno if it works but this looked fun.

  • What'll it do mister? Got any more pics?

  • I have cleaned out the tank and am replacing the fuel pipe, i will place a go kart in line fuel filter to ensure the fuel arrives at the carb in a clean state. Like my Lambretta, this had been standing in a loft in Amians for 30 years i should think.

  • That's awesome. Wouldn't want to ride it over any speed bumps though...

  • I wouldn't want to ride it with the engine on with those brakes :o

Stopping power must be vastly smaller than motive power, no?

  • Stopping power will be fine.
My father has a 1913 Arno with wooden bolcks to stop it. He got from Epsom Downs to Brighton faster than my brother on his Mv Augusta. Well the mv broke down!
