Shimano 9 speed isn't under bar tape shifter cable routing, only 10 speed and up bud.
The later Tiagra 4500 9 speed STIs are better shifting than the first production 105/Ultegra level shifters IME. -

I will have soon a couple of Tiagra shifters 9 speed (soon because the next week I will change the gropset on my bike). Where are you based?
After fighting the urge to move with the times from indexed downtube shifters to STIs I am finally going to dip my toe in the water. My bike is currently sporting a Sora group with Dura Ace 9-speed DT shifters and I'm looking to try out a single STI for the rear derailleur.
Post what you've got, but something in the 105-and-up region would be preferred, as would under-bartape cable routing.
Cheers.
