Fondriest Tidy Up

  • I didn't consider the anticipated changes I'm making to my recent acquisition - an early/ mid 1990s Fondriest - to be worthy of its own thread, but when I started explaining to Anidel what I'm actually doing, it struck me that there might be enough going on to make it worth the while.

The bike in its original form is pictured. I shall be using a mixture of old stuff and newly bought components to tidy this up a bit, but my major issue is that the handlebars are too wide and the stem is too long, which will necessitate the most substantial changes to this bike

So far I have fitted toe-clips with white Christophe leather stripes, replaced the tyres with a pair of Schwalbe Lugano gumwalls, and swapped over the saddle for a white Selle Italia Turbo, as well as fitting more functional apparatus. I'll try and post some pictures tomorrow.

I've got a new pair of hoods and some white bar tape waiting in the wings; first I've got to sort out the bars and stem.

  • Nice colours, looks a bit like the colours Pro team "Vlaanderen" used in the past.

  • I saw somebody in Sheen/Mortlake riding one of those. In lovely condition, it was, but I was dismayed to see that it was being ridden fixed.

  • it was being ridden fixed

unbelievable... Knowing that's what Merckx made the "Pista" for.

  • Done - I changed the tyres, stem, handlebars, pedals, hoods, bar-tape, saddle, and added a bottle cage. So nothing too taxing, nor drastic, but here you go:
