In my mind the Cinelli Mystic Rats is just a really average SS commuter bike, its one of the few frames they do that takes a rear brake, not really fixie/track.
I wouldn't rule out getting a proper one over a Specialised, Fuji, Dolan.. but you do pay a premium for the Cinelli name.

Dont forget about the Chris Hoy ones, They look pretty decent especially the one for track. I'll try and look for the one im talking about but it has been mentioned here before.

It's been entirely my fault, it costed me £849 back in 2012, I bought it blindly online trusting my "fellow" because it looked nice in his pictures. In the end it was quite bad for all those money. I think the columbus carbon fork is the only one worth mention and possibly the light weight.
However you are telling me that you might still want to go for the Cinelli Mystic over say a Langster Pro or a Dolan Pre Cursa? -

For £1k you could get a Polish builder to make you something out of Zona (531 could even be cheaper) and have over £500 leftover for the rest of the parts. 200 for wheels, 300 on drivetrain and some finishing kit.
Would have nice welds but take longer to complete given its not an OTP.

I was saying I wouldn't go near the Mystic as I don't consider it a Cinelli.
Your list is all about looks (nothing wrong with that ha) but how do you want it to ride? Fixed, brakeless, single speed, track geometry, relaxed, to the shop and back or big miles?
And they all have their pros and cons.
The Langster Pro fork doesn't appear to take a front brake. The Dolan Pre Cursa is a solid choice, good value for money but doesn't look particularly exciting.I really like my vigorelli vigorosa; take it on long rides and is comfy on my 40 mile round commute.

@Turkish Zona or 531? You are not saying this http://zonabike.net/ are you?
@iPete the plan is to use it on a day to day 5.5 miles commute on a mostly flat route but I won't exclude some extended weekend ride. The Langster doesn't take the front brake by default but you can surely change the fork to accommodate one. Between Fixie or SS I don't have a major preference although fixie is nice, surely brakeless is not an option, not in London with all the crazy driver at least. About Dolan what about the TC1 then? About the geometry I would say track geometry but nothing exasperate if possible though.
About the vigorelli I think I'd like to stay clear from Cinelli this time. -

How about a Bob Jackson Vigorelli track OTP frame for £500 and spend the rest on part?
-

Cervelo T1 - used.
Bob Jackson is a great shout. Or NJS export.

Zona and 531 are steel tube types. A frame built out of Zona tubes will be slightly stiffer but 531 would soak up road buzz better. Or so people say.
Going custom would mean you can have something individual, which none of the other options really are, and you would know it would suit all your needs and fit you well ie bottle cages, mudguard mounts, clearance etc

That's a great shout, so far the closest to what I have in mine, it's like the Langster pro but better for what I can see. Why do you recommend used? Wouldn't be new better?

Also, what are the opinion about the Planet X Track carbon frame? Is it worth it?

@Turkish do you know anyone who would be able to do it?

Orlowski built a track frame for @Skant so he'd probably know how to get in touch. Orlowskis brother, Rychtarski also builds frames but I'm unsure on the price. IIRC skant's Zona track was about £450

By the way since I'm seriously considering to go steel, what do you guys think of 14bike co? The bicycles look amazing but what about quality and price?
-
• #17
I'm going to sound like a broken record and its just co-incidence that its a Cinelli, honest! but since you want steel and want to be able to run SS or fixed (most of the aforementioned OTP bikes are fixed only without drilling or adapters), I'd take a look at the Mash Work frameset.
I only suggest, as I'd quite like one and it popped into my head earlier... but might be hard to get hold of one.

The 14R looks lovely, really like an aggressive top top, you'll need a new front fork. I just can't workout with a quick google where you can buy one?
-
• #19
@iPete thanks for the advice, the irony is that the same guy who in the past recommended me the mystic now owns a mash so a bit of trust is already gone there :)
That said though, I think I'm bought into the idea of getting a custom work by some craftsman. I'm hunting for a British one and that's how 14 bike came up but other than them all the other seem out of reach in terms of price. Likely I'll end up with Orlowsky though, not that it's bad, the contrary, only that I would like to feed the help the British market whenever possible. -

@Breso I'm going custom build. I had my bike fitting session today and none of the OTP out there can match my measures unfortunately. What I was actually pointing out is that the Shindelhauer bicycles look exactly the same has the hand built one from 14BikeCo I posted.
I was wondering who built it first since 14BikeCo claims the 14R has been designed by Andy Ellis back in 2009 so I'm a bit puzzled.

got the 14R. .great bike. .lee cooper used to build those frames for them but apparently he quit building frames now. im not sure who's building it for them now, maybe super ted?. .i had mine after 10 months even with lee cooper building for them. .
Hi everyone, meanwhile I wait to hopefully find a buyer for my Cinelli (photos will come soon, I got access to it back only today) I need advice about what to buy next. I would like to avoid to listen to the same friend who suggested the Cinelli (I was disappointed) and listen to more experienced bikers. Some of the key points:
With those points in mind what do you people suggests? What's hot in 2015 and what should I look at?
The brands I currently have in the targets are Specialised, Fuji, Dolan as Leader but mainly because I just know these for seeing them mentioned countless time on here.
Any advice is welcome.
Thanks.
