I have first dibs on the diy disc when you sell

Looks nice

Look forward to seeing this progress, full classic build would smash it

I know this will upset proper disc wheel fans but i was keen to get the "disc wheel aesthetic" whilst getting the bike rolling and spending as little money as possible.
The way I built the disc was to take a shitty wheel, and fill it with expanding foam, sand the foam down and then carbon wrap it. The wheel is fairly true (and has stayed fairly true) but the foam isn't smooth all the way round - when it spins the wheel has fat spots and thin spots.
I spent £10 on the wheel
3 x £6 expanding foam
and 2 x £10 carbon wrap
So £46 all in
I'm fairly pleased with the way it has turned out, I'm going to spend a lot more time sanding the second side and I'll update with photos when the second sheet of carbon wrap arrives
Here is the disc unwrapped (and not fully sanded) on the other side

I know I haven't updated in ages (sorry!)
I've had uni exams etc to prepare for etc
I now have a pair of LA84 bars
A Cinelli 1A stem
An SR Crankset (I'm investigating getting an aero ring for this - does anyone know of a good place to enquire?)
And a Campy Rear Track Wheel! - (Thanks to @haveo for helping me with the wheel)
I'll post photos of the hoe made wheel later -

This is it in its current form
The bar end brake is an absolute nightmare to use on these bars, I can't wait to sort an aero brake out for it -

Finally this is a crap photo of the other side of the homemade disc

The disc arrived!
I also put the SR Crankset on with a 45T ring
The rear is 15T
I think I'm going to get a 50T ring however because it's still a little spinny for me and I prefer the bigger gears, that said, I might fiddle the gear so I can have the rear tyre as close to the frame as possible since smaller clearances = rad
The disc is fastMy list of parts still to go is seatpost, record aero brake lever, pedals and new tubs
I'm also tempted to rebuild the front wheel - same hubs and rim just with shiny new spokes but I feel like it's not a major job that needs doing -

This is the weight of the build currently

Looks sweet. Clearances look tight already.
And thats a lot of bamboo there.

Great with the campag disc.

• #14
This seems pretty light with a disc, isn't it? Can you slam that stem?
-
• #15
So sweet

On its way to porn ;-)
Was close to bidding on that disc too, will take it if you ever need to get rid
-

Very nice build I have a Roy Swinnerton built front wheel large flange campy hub profile 18 rim with new tub if your interested

Yeah the disc is crazy light! I could slam the stem (probably will for photos in the future) but those few mm mean I can ride it a hell of a lot easier

Would you want some good condition uncut 3ttt moser bars for this? slightly on the expensive side but will sort you out a good price :-)

slick
I'm a very impulsive person.
After Haveo told me about this I just had to have it.
I bought this from BigH and he has been very helpful in telling me the history of this frame.
It is a Swinnerton frame, most probably built by Roy Swinnerton - I plan to visit the Swinnerton shop to confirm this. The frame was re-coated by a previous owner at armourtex(?)
It has a Campag Headset and Campag BB
The front wheel is a Campag Record Hub built on to a Wolber Profil 18
It has a standard 3ttt stem and Nitto RB010 Bars with Tektro Bar End Brakes
I've slapped some very cheap parts on to get it running and I'm part way into creating a home made disc wheel (more about that later).
Haveo encouraged me to post this here and I hope to do this bike justice.
I apologise for the poor quality iPhone photos - I will take some better ones when I can
I plan to build it up with Campagnolo Pista Track Crankset, Backwards Record Aero Brake, Aero Seatpost and a proper disc
